Book Description

Book One in the Unraveled Series. House of Fire (Book Two) now available.

For young art professor Delaney Jones, the treacherous spiral begins when she makes one unforgivable mistake - she sleeps with her student. Her silent Wisconsin winter turns deadly after she witnesses the brutal murder of a man she had chosen to forget. As Delaney battles to deal with the undoing of her tight-stitched life, the small liberal arts university is devastated by the discovery of a bloody crime scene on campus. A mysterious text entangles her in the violent scandal, and Delaney must follow the rules of the anonymous messenger to stop the perpetuating descent toward death. But the line between good and evil is blurry. And maybe, just maybe, there is no line at all.

Review

"Wow. You'd think that the way House of Steel was written that the author would have written dozens of novels. Not so. House of Steel is Raen Smith's debut novel and this new author will leave you on the edge of your seat as you eagerly flip through the pages of this suspenseful novel. Keep your eye on this one, she'll be a bestselling author in no time."  - A Girl and Her Kindle.

"I flew through this book - I couldn't bear to put it down without reading just one more chapter. The plot keeps you guessing and wanting more, the characters are extremely well-developed and relatable, and the writing is superb. This is one of the best suspense novels I've ever read and I would recommend it to everyone!" - Kindle Reader

3.0 out of 5 stars Introduction to the next book? August 19, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really liked the first half of the book but the second half was confusing. The characters in the first half became secondary and the secondary characters became primary. There were too many things unexplained and many were unbelievable.

I liked the Jones family but the rest of the characters were one dimensional. The ending was nonexistent. I think the second half of the book was the introduction to the next book in the series. It left me feeling cheated.

I flew through this book - I couldn't bear to put it down without reading just one more chapter! The plot keeps you guessing and wanting more, the characters are extremely well-developed and relatable, and the writing is superb. This is one of the best suspense novels I've ever read and I would recommend it to everyone! If you want a page-turner that will not only capture your interest but will also surprise you with plot turns and unexpected twists, this is the book for you. I'm looking forward to the second one already!

3.0 out of 5 stars Had potential November 15, 2013
By Ivy
Format:Kindle Edition
This book was interesting but confusing in many spots. I kept hoping for something that would tie the story together but it never really happened. Her characters were intriguing but 2 dimensional, they would have been so much more interesting if the author had taken more time to flesh them out. The other reason for only giving it 3 stars was this writer could really use an editor. Incorrect usage of lie & lied drove me nuts and really detracted from the story. It's basic grammar that an editor, or even a proof reader should have caught.

I think Raen Smith has talent and this story has potential but, as seems to be the trend lately, publishing only part of a story in hopes of making more "sequels" spoiled this story for me. Just once I'd like to buy a complete book with a beginning, middle and ending, not countless sequels.

I had a hard time in the beginning with all of the jumping to different characters/scenes but in the end I was so engrossed in the work that I overlooked that difficulty. I totally recommend this reading!! And I look forward to the next book!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read! September 17, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What a great weekend read! Smith's writing is so detailed that she takes you on the journey right along with the characters. Living near where the novel takes place, I found myself driving through town (I had to stop myself from taking a detour to look for Delaney's house..) expecting to see Delaney strutting down the street. I very much enjoyed her style of writing that let me "see" everything from all of the characters viewpoints.

Will I read the next one? When I was half way through the HOUSE OF STEEL, I ordered HOUSE OF FIRE...so YES!

Horrible, boring, kept reading just to find out the end only to find there is no end in this book - you have to get another book. Frustrating. Will never read another book by this author.

An incredible debut for Raen Smith! With a suspenseful plot and intriguing characters, you will want to read the entire book in one sitting! Smith ties the story together with creativity and mystery. Smith keeps you guessing as she adds twists and turns throughout the entire story line. What a impressive first book. Excited to hear more from Smith :)

4.0 out of 5 stars So Tense! September 19, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I'll admit that it took me a while to get into this book. It was a little slow moving at first as the characters and their situations were introduced. I stuck with it though and I'm glad that I did. Once all of the necessary introductions were out of the way the tension started to mount and continued to build until the story reached it's thrilling climax. It had mystery, intrigue, twists, turns and plenty of "I don't know who the heck to trust anymore!" moments. It was well written, well thought-out, and incredibly hard to put down. After finishing the novel I had so many unanswered questions that it would have driven me crazy having to wait to read the second book. Luckily, I was fortunate enough to be able to dive into the second novel immediately (more on that later!). I was amazed when I read that this was actually Raen Smith's debut novel. When I checked out her Goodread's page I was expecting to see a long list of credits to her name and there's no doubt in my mind that we'll all be hearing a lot from her in the future. My only warning about this novel is that there is blood, gore, and a scene that could be triggering to sensitive individuals. In short, this is not a book for the faint of heart. But it's sooooo worth reading!

NOTE: I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for my honest review.
