4.0 out of 5 stars fine contemporary, July 9, 2003
This review is from: House of Strangers (Harlequin Superromance No. 1143) (Mass Market Paperback)
Retired pilot Paul Bouvet leaves his New Jersey home to buy the dilapidated Delaney Mansion in Rositer, Tennessee. He hires the restoration and renovation company of the town's police chief Jack Corrigan and his daughter Ann to renovate the place so that he can move in immediately. Jack knows that his mother vanished somewhere near here thirty years ago after visiting his father, a Delaney, who he believes, killed his mom. He plans to obtain the proof though he knows his biological dad is dead.

Paul's need for vengeance that has kept him breathing for decades suddenly is at war with new feelings when he begins to fall in love with Ann. She returns his precious feelings. However, once his agenda surfaces to destroy the Delaneys like they did his mother, Paul knows that his relationship with Ann will become a casualty too.

Though the theme of love battling with revenge has been often told, Carolyn McSparren provides a solid tale due to the avenger learning that his targets are not spawns of demons. Ann and the townsfolk are a delightful cast, but Carolyn McSparren's novel belongs to the slow evolution of Paul from absolute avenging assurance to budding bewildered bafflement to cherished certainty conviction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, April 1, 2004
This review is from: House of Strangers (Harlequin Superromance No. 1143) (Mass Market Paperback)
I throughly enjoyed this book. The imagery that McSparren presented was excellent. Unlike many of the other Harlequin books, this one seemed to be more thought out, with a love, and mystery plot that didn't smother each other. Sometimes in Harlequins you get one or the other, but not this one. Highly recommended for a light read!
