This is a very interesting reading of history and deals with the poor workers in Brazil in the 19th century using the dichotomy of rich/poor and private/public.

It is one those books that you are ASKED to read while you are in college and you just don't know how to finish it! Repetition after repetition.... honestly very unlikely of my character I skipped pages after pages. Three star goes to the enormous amount of research that ended up compiling book.

This book provides an excellent view on the life on all classes of people living in Brazil throughout the eighteenth century. Well doucumented, easy to read, and fascinating.
