5.0 out of 5 stars Blew Letterman away. Awesome new band.
This album is amazing. If you haven't seen them do "How You Like Me Now?" on Late Show with David Letterman, I suggest you go the the CBS site and watch it. It's all you need to see. They are the real deal. The whole audience was movin' Always good to find real music that makes you move. Buy it. Just Buy it!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Funky Like It Oughta Be
The best song by The Heavy is "How Do You Like Me Now?" which contain a sample of a "Let A Woman Be A Woman" by Roy Head. Even though "Let A Woman Be A Woman" is a James Brown rip-off, that song alone is ten times funkier than this whole album. Roy Head's album Same People (1970), which "Let A Woman Be A Woman" comes from, is an excellent example of blue-eyed soul. The...

5.0 out of 5 stars Mind-Blowing Album, April 7, 2011
This review is from: The House That Dirt Built (Audio CD)
The House That Dirt Built is a great album full of funky and sassy (maybe that is a girly term)songs. It is worthy of being played on any occasion, parties, road-trips, and even while cleaning or cooking. I love the acoustic, "dirty" sound they have going on and would recommend this album to anyone and everyone looking to spice up their life. Plus, the band is as good in concert as it sounds on the CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Heavy - A "Commercial" Success, April 16, 2010

I was first introduced to this band through the Kia Sorrento commercial featuring the toys going out on a night on the town. The song "How You Like Me Now."
I loved the song so much I hit the internet to find out who it was and when I learned of tis CD I rushed to buy it.
I was not disappointed in the least!
Amazon's editorial for the cd says the band has "schizo music tastes" and I couldn't have put it better. There is a little bit of everything on this cd. There is surely something to please everyone, from the reggae beats of "Love Like That" to the hard rock undertones of "Stuck."
If you are looking for a good time, give the Heavy's "The House That Dirt Built" a try, you will thank me for it later.

5.0 out of 5 stars Are there more stars available??, March 25, 2010
This review is from: The House That Dirt Built (Audio CD)
Oh. My. Word. If I could have given this 10 stars, I would have. Here's how this love story started. I heard How You Like Me Now? on that car commercial with the sock monkeys and googled it. Found out it was The Heavy, listened to the samples on Amazon and bought it. Here's the middle of the love story. I listened to Love Like That 12 times today in my car. With this CD, you get everything. If you like Stevie Ray Vaughn, you'll hear him. If you like Led Zeppelin, you'll hear them. If you like the Kinks or the Beatles or Ozzy Osbourne, you'll find them in here too. Hell, you'll even hear something that sounds like the theme song from Gunsmoke or some old western. The diversity of this is like nothing I have ever experienced. And here's the best part. There is no end to this love story. It will go on and on as long as my CD player works.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heavy Duty Soul Rock!, February 12, 2010
This review is from: The House That Dirt Built (Audio CD)
This band just has IT. Their groove is so nasty, thick and oil-soaked it just grabs you by the short & curlies and shakes you around at will. An incredibly deep, thumping retro sound on most tracks, with some super mellow mayfield-esque slow jams for good measure. "No Time", "What You Want Me To Do?", "Short Change Hero", and of course "How You Like Me Now?" are hot spots on a collection that's already scorched.

Yes, thanks Late Show for introducing me to yet another great band. Man, they ALWAYS have a great lineup. A funky, soulful, bluesy, garage band? That's the best I can come up with.

I can't tell if I'm in smackin' New Orleans soul, Detroit Funk or bi-coastal hip hop. This is is some hot fun music that'll trip you through some genre's all at once

This album is absolutely fantastic. It's 2012 and I'm still in love with it. The texture and attitude and groove assembled here will stand long after the pop hooks and production gimmicks of The Heavy's contemporaries have crumbled to dust.

Love. This. Record.

Check out the original stuff before getting all excited by a "new" group.

4.0 out of 5 stars Catchy, highly rhythmic music from The Heavy, October 27, 2011

Even though this is normally not my kind of music, it's extremely addictive, due to the originality of the presentation and the association of the "Short Change Hero" song as the theme of the wonderful HBO TV series "Strike Back." There are a couple of minor glitches in sound quality between two of the titles, but they are easily overlooked.

Altogether, this is terrific music, and a hugely enjoyable album.
