5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic movie!
This movie will give you chills. From start to finish, it really delivers the goods. Although the direction is weak and inconsistant-the films lead (Michael Guarnera) is a star in the making. Pick up this little movie-you won't be dissapointed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Plotless film that takes you on a ride to boredum!
The only saving grace and reason for the 1 star rating (should have been 0) is the really cool and gory deaths, plus the nudity.

1.0 out of 5 stars Plotless film that takes you on a ride to boredum!, August 25, 2010
This review is from: House That Jack Built (DVD)
The only saving grace and reason for the 1 star rating (should have been 0) is the really cool and gory deaths, plus the nudity.
I am a huge Joe Mantegna fan, and thus pre-ordered and chose to overnight this movie. I was very disappointed by the fact that Mr. Mantegna's role in this film is a cameo at best. Clearly the filmmakers knew they had a no name cast, and thus attached his name/face to the front to try and draw in larger crowd. (which worked, as my wasted dollars are proof)
The plot for the film is a mindless setup to lure guests in to the house to be brutally murdered. Jack (Kris Black) inherits his family's house. The house brings back horrible thoughts of when his mother was murdered here, so what does Jack do? Demos the home and builds a party house on the land. Doing so awakens Jacks Grandfathers spirit (aka, the killer) Jack, in celebration of having completed his party house, hosts a party. The Grandfather starts killing off the guests... Bland dialogue with monotone delivery ensues.
Just let me point out right here that the cast in this film is mediocre at best with Kris Black taking home Worst Actor Award as the lead. I'm not sure if his character was supposed to be mind-numbingly boring, or if Kris himself was falling asleep during the shoot? Needless to say, the audience will have a hard time relating to this character, and I imagine most viewers will wish he comes to the same fate as the chick being bludgeoned to death by a hammer.
The picture quality of this film looks like a Standard Def rip from a poorly broadcast TV station that was bootlegged in China and sent directly to me.
I honestly think the reviewers who scored this film 5/5 were watching a different film.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hang yourself first., November 3, 2010

I like Joe Mantegna, but this movie is the worst I ever saw. Watching paint dry would be more fun. Poor acting, directing, and story. Save your money, don't buy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOOKS DAMN GOOD FOR A LOW-BUDGET MOVIE, August 23, 2010

This review is from: House That Jack Built (DVD)
"THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT" is one of the better-produced movies I've seen for this genre. Though a bit old-fashioned by today's low-budget standards (it has great production values, sound, special effects, acting) this movie has the sexiest cast, the coolest music, and a real hottie, Kris Black, in the lead role. His shirt comes off, just enough (well, a little more could have helped). The supporting cast is really good, especially Justin Shilton as the stoner dude; Michael Guarnera as the older dude "Uncle. Buzzkill, Dominic", and sexy kitten Chantelle Barry (love the accent) as Jack's loyal woman; and then there's that guy from Criminal Minds and Gail O'Grady as the ghostly parents who, well, I can't give away the ending. Just see it. Lot of scares! And you don't ever seen them coming!
