An Unwrapped spin-off???,
By
This review is from: The House of Urban Grooves: THUG Jazz (Audio CD)
Because of the personnel on this album (Karen Briggs, Lou Taylor, Paul Litteral, Patrice Rushen, and Tony Joseph who produced the Unwrapped series), I consider this in some ways a spin-off from the Unwrapped series.
All original songs featuring some known artists and not so known artists (Jazz pianist Kevin Toney contributes on the album as well). Each track flows right into the next one, giving it a mixtape feel. Tight beats, awesome sax solos and horns, and some smooth vocals on "Enemy", "Da Truth", and "Kaos". If you enjoyed the Unwrapped Series, then I believe you will enjoy this album.

Romanticizing The Grit of the City,

This isn't daiseys and clover but it has a pulse of its own. I love all kinds of music (but not all music). This is a nice blend of hip hop, smooth jazz, with a little touch of up tempo lounge music. There is a lot of variety of groove here. I stumbled on this CD. Sometimes you find great things when you aren't really looking for it. Add this one to your collection. You will find it will work in a lot of settings from Saturday afternoon, a lead in to an evening that will eventually get quiet and romantic, to something to listen to in the car coming home from work.

Cool Jams!,

I bought this on a whim and it was the best purchase I have made in years! Some songs are sexy, some relaxing and smooth, others are ultra funky and fun! Some have vocals and some don't. The songs flow into one another. "Howard's In" should be in a movie (maybe it was?) with its changing moods - starting with a flowing piano over a strong beat that continues until that funky sax takes its turn, finally ending with the quiet beat blending into the next song. It makes me think of a psychological thriller! Love this!

I like to listen to various kinds of music. This cd is hard to put in a catagory. It is jazz with a little bit of soul sound but most of the songs were really interesting. I had not heard of most of the artists and wouldn't have bought a cd or heard them in concert not knowing them. Although I might really like a performer, buying their cd leaves you with a few hits and a lot of misses. All of their songs start to sound the same. Presenting various artists avoids that monotony. I've bought some pretty bad cd's lately and this was a pleasant surprise. Wish more thugs listened to this. It would mellow them out.

Yes, as the last reviewer stated.....it's a spinoff of the Unwrapped Series which I own all 5 of.
I LOVE this CD...more so tracks 3 thru 8 but they are all good! Even my husband who listens to mostly rock ie. Floyd, Led Z etc. love this CD as he loves the Unwrapped series. If you love, urban, hip hop, soul, jazz, R&B and today's music with a twist of 'adult' then you will love this cd. I use it when I am working out for meditation. It's also great for traveling long distances.
