5.0 out of 5 stars Best book I read in a long time!
This book is absolutely fantastic! Its the story of a young boy whose father dies and he then has the responsibiliy to run the family business. He then becomes involved in lots of adventures and meets many interesting characters. It takes place in Amsterdam in the 1600's, a place and time that I didn't know anything about, but the author makes you feel like you're right...

3.0 out of 5 stars Adventure, Mystery, and Ships
I did enjoy this book, but it was nothing special. I liked the main character, Adam's, determination and strong character. I, also, liked the twists and turns. The characters were stereotypical: the evil banker, greedy uncle, and determined hero, Adam. I found myself becoming bored with the story and never grew attached to any of the characters. The one character...

I recommend this book highly

5.0 out of 5 stars very surprising, November 22, 2003

full of twists, suspense, and quite some action, this book will keep you guessing til the end. though the ending was a bit of a dissapointment, i can smell a sequel that u'll most likely be eager to read. and even if u didnt like how it all turned out, u have to appreciate the hidden meaning that set it apart from most predictable books

5.0 out of 5 stars A young heir's determination to save his family fortune, September 15, 2003
In 1636 Europe faces a world fascination with tulips while the Windhammer family faces ruin and the loss of its entire trading fleet. It's up to young Adam, heir to the house, to save his family's fortune from the evil banker Van Halsen and a corrupt uncle. Obsession and business challenges make a dangerous pair in this compelling story of a young heir's determination to save his family fortune.

The one character that interested me, Jade, whose mystery and strength I found alluring, was actually rather naïve and weak. The ending was left open to a sequel, which can be considered a good or bad thing. All in all this was an average novel.

3.0 out of 5 stars Three and a half stars, October 25, 2003
I found this book more on the average side of things. Although written well, the middle of the book is slow and the climax doesnt really happen until the last 30 pages. At that point in time I found the book very enjoyable but after a lousy ending, it was not worth more than 3 1/2 stars. However, I am not sure if there is a sequel to this book and if there is I would read it to give it another chance. The thing I found impressive with this book would be about the character development. You can sympathise with the characters, and the mood of the book reflects on the House of Windjammer as it falls. I would recommend this book to anyone who finds historical novels interesting, and to anyone who can stand a action - lacked complication.
