5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT CLOTHES TREE
I BROUGHT THE WHITNEY CLOTHES TREE BECAUSE I OWNED ONE BEFORE. THE LAST ONE I OWNED WHICH I USED 3 TIMES A WEEK TO HANG OUT OUR FAMILY WASH LASTED ALMOST 8 YEARS! (WOULD HAVE LASTED LONGER BUT KIDS ARE HARD ON THINGS) SO I KNEW WHEN IT WAS TIME TO REPLACE IT I WOULDN'T GET ANY OTHER KIND. UNLIKE THE ONES IN THE LOCAL HARDWARE/HOME IMPROVEMENT CENTERS THIS ONE IS HEAVY...

3.0 out of 5 stars ONE SMALL ISSUE...
This clothesline is fine in all ways. One issue I did have was that it needed to be cleaned! There was grease on the poles, arms and also on the lines - not easy to remove. And why should I have to be cleaning it anyway??? Perhaps the grease was to keep it from rusting in storage(?). I have no idea.... But it really had to be cleaned before it could be used - no...

(WOULD HAVE LASTED LONGER BUT KIDS ARE HARD ON THINGS) SO I KNEW WHEN IT WAS TIME TO REPLACE IT I WOULDN'T GET ANY OTHER KIND. UNLIKE THE ONES IN THE LOCAL HARDWARE/HOME IMPROVEMENT CENTERS THIS ONE IS HEAVY DUTY AND HAS MORE LINES FOR DRYING SPACE. THE STEEL ARMS ARE STRONG AND IT GOES UP AND DOWN EASILY. THIS IS A GREAT VALUE!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just What I Was Looking For, December 20, 2008

After investigation I decided to purchase the Whitney Design 4000 Clothes Dryer. I haven't regretted it. I live in an off-grid situation in the high desert and this is perfect. It is well-made and roomy and turns in the breeze. We get some extreme wind out here, but I haven't used it on really windy days, although the clothespins would probably give before the dryer. When I was looking into these I had alot of trouble understanding how it was held in position as it is not in the product description, and I believe it should be. You will need to set their sleeve in the ground with cement. Then there is an extension pole that fits in the sleeve and then the pole with the umbrella dryer fits in the extension pole. I used the quick drying cement you just pour in the ground and add water, so this was a fairly simple procedure. After the sleeve is secured, this is a very sturdy clothesline. Easy to put up and take down. Highly recommend and a bargain at this price.

I have been wanting a umbrella style clothes dryer for awhile now. I was tired of my single line strung from our tree to the house, which happened to keep breaking in high wind. I did my research and thought this would be the right one for us, based on the reviews. I couldn't be happier with it! I am impressed with the amount of clothes it can hold..reminds me of the one my mom had in our yard when I was a kid. I have been using it for a month now, and I am very satisfied with the product. Yes, it did have a light coating of oil on it when it arrived. I did as another reviewer said, and used Simple Green to clean it down. It took about 45 minutes and it was good to go. I have had sheets and blankets on it, they have had plenty of room to dry, and the only smell I detect is nice fresh air! I would recommend this clothes dryer to anyone thinking of purchasing one. Heck, I posted a picture of it, with my bedding on it, to my Facebook account. Some girls like diamonds (this is Bill's wife doing the review, not Bill!), I happen to like clothes that smell like the great outdoors! I forgot to mention...it was my birthday present!

1.0 out of 5 stars Everything is covered in grease :(, January 3, 2009
This review is from: Household Essentials 4000 30-Line Outdoor Parallel-Style Clothes Dryer with Steel Arms (Kitchen)
I'm so upset, I received this dryer for Christmas and used it for the first time today to find out that all the poles and lines are covered in grease. All of my clothes, towels and sheets are now coved in it also.

I will call the company on Monday to find out if this is not the norm, maybe I just got unlucky and received a lemon. But for now I'm so mad that my clothes may be reuined, I will have to wash them all again and see if I can get all the grease out.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm not talking a little grease on the center pole so it will slide, I'm talking thick smudeges of it on all the poles and lines. The thing reeks and so do all of my clothes now that I brought them in the house. I tried to wipe it down but it's not helping and is an unbelievably daunting task with all of the lines, I think it's impossible for me to clean it up enough to be used.

But on the other hand I love the design, it is very sturdy and I would try another one if it isn't covered in grease.

UPDATE: The company was extremely apologetic, they said that is definitely not normal and have shipped out a new one immediatley. I'm very happy with their customer service and would difinitely update my rating to 4 stars as I do love the design and quality.

UPDATE II: I got the shipment within a few days and unfortunatly it was also covered in grease. I don't get how there are thousands of these out there and no one has had this problem. I had 2 friends look at it, and smell it, lol, and they completely agreed it is not right. You cannot touch the thing without your hands smelling and a good hand wash does not get rid of the stink. Unfortunatly I'm going to return it and try and find a different brand.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does the Job and Meets Expectations, June 27, 2009
This review is from: Household Essentials 4000 30-Line Outdoor Parallel-Style Clothes Dryer with Steel Arms (Kitchen)
I received this just over a month ago after researching a few outdoor clothesline options. I liked that you can fold it up and put it away during bad weather, as I probably won't be using it much here in Seattle over the winter! It arrived on-time as expected, and was fairly easy to set up. Our backyard already had a hole and post from a previous umbrella line so we just plopped it in there. As others have noted, it did have a thin layer of grease, so I did have to clean it before I used it. It came off easily with Simple Green and in less than an hour was ready to go. I'm still tightening the strings as I put out the laundry but that's to be expected. It holds quite a lot of laundry, I'd say four medium-large loads. It seems pretty strong and sturdy and so far I haven't had any trouble with it. I gave it four stars because it met, but did not exceed, my expectations.

5.0 out of 5 stars This review puts it to rest....., June 14, 2011

This review is from: Household Essentials 4000 30-Line Outdoor Parallel-Style Clothes Dryer with Steel Arms (Kitchen)
My girlfriend and I moved from freezing terrible cold colorado super high elevation to beautiful florida where you can actually do things outside throughout the year.

We wanted a way to dry our clothes but not be a slave to the electrical company. We all know taxes keep going up, jobs going down, so its all about saving money these days.

We calculated what it cost using a dryer (electric) and we were sold on drying them outside. So now the question was what do we buy.... I almost bought the traditional 2 poles, ya know, the T posts with the 3 wires dangling from pole to pole. But I couldn't find a seller of higher quality materials.

I was worried we wouldn't be able to hang our blankets on this umbrella style clothes pole here off amazon. After 2 weeks of looking around we ordered this one. I was excited but hesitant. Some people said this was the worst decision they had ever made in their entire life... I didn't want to make a huge mistake by purchasing it. You read on here that the things are dipped and covered in grease.... so I was reluctant for sure.

Item came in almost a week later. The box was bigger than I thought. I hurried and pulled it out, and searched for grease on my hands. I didn't see any. Then I looked for grease on the floor of my house... I didn't see any... I kept thinking the grease would pour out of the box and stain our carpet. The grease never came.

I rubbed my fingers on the steel trying to understand what people are talking about with grease. I could feel a super light, almost unnoticeable coating that didn't come off. It was obvious it was there for the quality and integrity of the metal so it wouldn't rust. But in no way did it stain my hand, or clothes, or rub off. Like I said it MIGHT have been a light coating, or it could have been my imagination.

So we live within 2 miles of the ocean so our land is sand. SO I used a bag of concrete and hoped for the best as I installed the base of the unit.

The next day I flew home so I could test out the washer we had purchased and this clothes line. Someone stole it! Just kidding. I raced into the house and washed a load of clothes. I could barely stand the tension as I bit my nails watching the clothes go round and round. Finally they were done. I hugged them into my arms and flopped them up onto my new umbrella clothes line. It was fun. It works awesome. It probably won't hold the big asp blankets but it does hold some clothes for sure. It is perfect size for me and my girlfriend.... with a little extra room. But we wear a lot of clothes because Im sweating my tail off in Florida (love it) Colorado is a very depressing place October through May... but June, July and August it warms up for those 3 months. The other 9 months of the year it is very depressing and no oxygen from high elevation. And the house prices are inflated like Cally....

Anyway.... It met my expectations. You have to tighten the lines after a couple uses. I have tightened mine twice now. ( You will see when you get it)

Its awesome.

Its flat on top... its not the one that is angled,.... all the lines run flat.... okay?

Would I recommend this to a friend? Absolutely. Just know if you are going to wash a bunch of big asp blankets you will have to use something else. Other than that this was a ridiculous buy.

Happy camper.

3.0 out of 5 stars Grease IS The Word!!!!!!!, April 23, 2009
This review is from: Household Essentials 4000 30-Line Outdoor Parallel-Style Clothes Dryer with Steel Arms (Kitchen)
I knew I was in trouble when I looked at my hands after I spent 5 mins puting up the clothesline. My hands were Black and covered in Grease. I spent the next 2 hours trying to degrease the poles and clothesline. I can't believe that the people in China can't see the problem with coating a clothesline with GREASE. The clothesline itself looks sturdy and well built, but the Grease is totally unaceptable. Can you imagine being told by a store that you have to degrease the inside of a gas or electric dryer before you use it?.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful product, May 17, 2009
This review is from: Household Essentials 4000 30-Line Outdoor Parallel-Style Clothes Dryer with Steel Arms (Kitchen)
This is a great product, I live in North Texas and we get really stong winds and this product stands up great to it. I can put up 2-3 loads of clothes with no problem, sheets and blankets go up great. The turning of the umbrella makes the clothes dry even faster. The product came in about 3 days and had no defects to it at all.
