3.0 out of 5 stars Nice idea but product should be better
I've looked in dozens of hardware stores to replace a similar hinge-pin hook I had and lost in move several years ago. The Hinge-It product is just what I was looking for. It works fine. But I have to say it doesn't work as well as the one I used to have (from an unknown manufacturer).

The Hinge-It has two hooks, but could easily have three. And the hooks...

It just wiggles a little when in use. However, this item could use better quality controls because one of the bulbs that forms the hook end had a slight dimple forming a visual imperfection (especially at the price charged). This is the only reason I didn't give this product 5-stars. The rest of the finish is smooth and good. I plan to purchase another one for my second bathroom.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Handy Hooks, November 9, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Household Essentials H5312 Hinge-It Spacemaker Double Hanging Hook, Brass (Kitchen)
I had one of these hooks years ago, but when my daughter moved into her own home, she liked it so much that I gave it to her. I've been looking ever since for a replacement, and finally found it. This Hinge-it Hook is even better than the original, because it has a double hook. I bought four of them and put them on doors all over the house. They are very simple to install--takes about 5 minutes to do--and they work much better than over the door hooks, because they don't interfere with opening and closing the door at all. I'm very happy with this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clever, Functional, and Handy!, October 7, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a great item for renters and those who don't want to or can't put hooks in their walls. No "permanent" decisions to make! I have one in my bathroom and one in my bedroom (both nickel finish).

PROS: They are very functional, hold a damp (or dry) towel well and are stylish enough to not feel bad about displaying, but not so unusual that they draw lots of attention.

They are great for things like a towel, showercap, apron, a dry umbrella, keys, a baseball cap, a light jacket, or in guest bathrooms so they have a place to hang their clothes, etc, when they change. Because of the "pin-lifting" effect (see Cons, below), I wouldn't hang anything too heavy, like a backpack, as the stress would surely push the pin up faster. And, while it's certainly sturdy enough for light duty work, I don't know the weight limit of the hook, itself, either.

They seem more "house-friendly" than the over-the-door hooks that always seem to nick up the door frame, make noises when opening and closing the door, and often leave a mark on the door surface. And, subjectively-speaking, these are generally "cooler"!

Note that while the description states that you can hang wet items on them (and you certainly can), I would caution against that, and only hang damp items (like a towel, used to dry off after a shower, but not a bathing suit, after a swim). Due to the design, the hanging item is innately in very close proximity to your door/trim/wall, so use good judgment to avoid mold or mildew or warping. (as you would with most hooks/bars)

SEMI-CONS: It can get a little "floppy" on the hinge, as the pin works it way upward, after repeated opening and closing of the door and using of the hook. A few times a month, I just push on the top of the hinge pin with my hand and it's good as new. My other non-hook hinges do this, also, but it seems that the hook accelerates this (understandably so). I believe this is a physics issue, not that hook's fault.

My only wish is that they sell for closer to $5 each - If so, I'd buy one for every door in my house!

I rely on reviews here at Amazon to help me make informed buying choices. I hope this review has helped you in the same manner. If you voted this as helpful, I Thank You! :)

The Hinge-It has two hooks, but could easily have three. And the hooks don't stay in place -- there's nothing to keep them from sliding from side to side. As I remember, my old hook stayed in place, didn't look as obtrusive and had three hooks.

Still, I would recommend this for anyone who too much stuff and too little space.

Ok, let me admit that I have not been able to make this product work, through no fault of the Hinge-It, because my darn apt door hinges are rusted or painted together. I can't get the pin out.

That being said, I keep eyeing that space behind my bathroom door (wasted!) and thinking about what I could put there. This is a great space-saver, especially for people in small-footprint apartments. Looks very nice, too, with its clean elegant lines and rounded-oval ends. Shipped super quickly.

I needed a coat hook in my studio apartment, and this provided one in a place that otherwise wouldn't be used for anything. Great space saver and easy to install.
