Editorial Reviews

Review

Housekeeping for the Soul carries its lovely, practical message with a lilting voice and eclectic viewpoint. The author helps us clear out some spiritual cobwebs and make our next 'spring cleaning' apply not to our homes but to the deepest part of ourselves. -- Victoria Moran, author of international bestseller Creating a Charmed Life

Sandra Carrington-Smith 'brings home' the need to simplify and let go of psychological 'clutter' in order to be more fully present in our everyday lives. Housekeeping for the Soul overflows with important concepts presented in a style that is fresh and relatable. A unique, 'must read' debut from this eloquent author. -- S.T. Underdahl, Clinical Psychologist and author of The Other Sister and Remember This

About the Author

Sandra Carrington-Smith is a mother, writer, life coach, and self-titled life observer, currently living in Raleigh, North Carolina, with her husband, three children, an oversized cat and a goldfish.

More About the Author

Sandra Carrington-Smith is an Italian-born author who relocated to the United States in the late 80's after marrying a US soldier who was serving overseas. Although writing was Sandra's deepest passion since childhood, her dream of becoming a published author had to be placed on hold for several years. Moving to a new country provided several challenges, the biggest one being the language barrier she encountered when she first arrived. In order to become fully integrated, Sandra tapped into her love for reading, and over time her vocabulary grew extensively. She gave birth to three children and devoted most of her time to raising a family. By the time she was in her late 30's, Sandra decided to revisit her old passion for writing, and penned a novel of paranormal suspense, The Book of Obeah, followed by a self-improvement book, Housekeeping for the Soul: A Practical Guide to Restoring Your Inner Sanctuary. Both titles were sold to the same publisher and released in 2010, and The Book of Obeah went on to win an international book award. Currently, Sandra's new novel, Killer in Sight, will be released at the end of May 2012. Sandra Carrington-Smith lives in Raleigh, NC, with her husband, children and three cats.

KILLER IN SIGHT, A Tom Lackey Mystery

Tracey Newman is a young and beautiful professional who relocated to North Carolina from St. Louis, Missouri, for a job as a physician assistant. When her body is found in the woods of a park in Raleigh, NC, her case is assigned to Lieutenant Tom Lackey, a veteran detective from the Raleigh Police Department. With the help of Kathy Spencer, his longtime girlfriend, and his partner, Gene Parker, a grouchy but kind-hearted detective, Tom Lackey unravels a mystery laden with psychosis and unexpected revelations. While Tom is busy following the multiple clues pouring in from different directions, Kathy gets to work to prove her own theory: The last image viewed by the dying person can be lifted from the eyes of the victim to identify the murderer. Using her background in photography and her passion for iridology, Kathy enlists the help of Dr. Greer, the medical examiner, who allows her to take shots of Tracey's eyes. Her findings are puzzling but they are soon supported by Alexis Howard, the dead girl's ten-year-old half-sister who volunteers valuable information she claims was delivered to her by her imaginary friend Lily.As the investigation unfolds, Tom discovers that many people have a reason to want Tracey Newman dead. Could the killer be her best friend Shannon, or maybe one of Tracey's ex-boyfriends? Or could it be Donald Russet, the married hospital administrator she had an affair with? Or could it even be Mary Townsend, Shannon's violent lesbian lover who saw Tracey as a threat to her relationship?
With multiple suspects floating up to the surface and skeletons yanked out of unlikely closets, Tom must rely on his methodical expertise and on Kathy's insight to find the killer before tragedy strikes again.

THE ROSARIES

Book two of the Crossroads series. After risking her life to safeguard the prophecy hidden within the pages of the famed Book of Obeah, Melody Bennet thinks her life has finally settled into normalcy. Now the tables are turning and Melody is once again thrust into uncharted territory. As the prophecy closes in, new dangers are lurking at the door...

SHADOWS OF A TUSCAN MOON

A beautiful mother of two mysteriously disappears without leaving a trace, apparently swallowed by the darkness of a frigid winter night. The local law enforcement gets right to work, but as time goes by every lead turns into a dead end. Has the woman decided to run off and turn her back on her too-tight family life, or is her disappearance the work of a skilled killer who has left no clues behind? Many shadows lurk in the timeless beauty of a small Tuscan town; one of those shadows, maybe the darkest one of all, holds the key to a terrifying truth...

This is one of those books that you hate to finish! Every page in this book is full of insight, inspiration and wonderful exercises. I especially enjoyed the way personal stories were told of different people thoughout the book, and the lessons behind them.

I took away so much from this book, and I will be reading it again.

This is Sandra Carrington-Smith's first book to my knowledge. I couldn't put this book down. It is a concise little jewel. Told in the voice of a wise woman in beautiful allegory, with poignant autobiography and inspirational narrative woven in, "Housekeeping for the Soul: A Practical Guide to Restoring Your Inner Sanctuary" will change you. The way you view your home and your soul has the opportunity to be totally renovated if you follow Carrington-Smith's sage advice. I grew to eagerly anticipate the gems of wisdom at the end of each chapter wherein Carrington-Smith uses the holistic healing knowledge of Voudou and the Orishas/Lwas/Goddesses to crystallize the lessons of the chapter. I highly recommend this book, especially if you wish to renew your soul's house. Now, you may not have ever thought about renewing your soul's house but trust me, after reading this book you'll be glad you did.

Housekeeping for the Soul is a little book packed with spiritual gems and the pure unadulterated wisdom that can only come from the inside - it's not something that can be faked. Ms. Carrington-Smith draws you into her hearth and home with the first few words she writes and you're in for a spiritual house cleaning and remodel of a lifetime once you climb up those first pages.

Just in time for Spring-cleaning, this book will help you open the windows of your soul and let fresh air in - possibly for the first time in a long time. Speaking candidly and from the heart, Ms. Carrington-Smith shares her story as well as the stories of people dear to her and weaves them into a rich and colorful tapestry.

No mere window dressing here, Housekeeping for the Soul: A Practical Guide to Restoring Your Inner Sanctuary, is just that--a place where you can discover or re-discover the sacred places within.

Isn't it time you listened to your hearts' calling? This is what Ms. Carrington-Smith urges us to do. As we follow along with her, going from room to room, cleaning out what no longer serves us, tearing down the frayed and tattered curtains that belie our grandeur and our divinity, redoing our family room--and our relationships--we make room within for a greater state of being.

When you read Housekeeping for the Soul you will be reminded that everything has a season, and everything changes - and you can too.

Housekeeping for the Soul won't find its way to my bookshelf anytime soon, for it has earned a place next to my bedside, where I keep those books that speak deeply to my heart. I want to savor its wisdom and its sweetness as I drift off to sleep at night. Don't be fooled by its size, it will work its way into your heart and work its magic.

It is not by coincidence that some of my most treasured, heartfelt reads have the word "Soul" in the title. Sandra Carrington-Smith's debut novel, "Housekeeping for the Soul" is no exception.

For those of you who are living your Soul's calling, "Housekeeping for the Soul" is an absolute treasure.

For those of you who are on the verge/discovery of your Soul's calling, "Housekeeping for the Soul" offers practical information and gentle encouragement.

For those of you who thought it was "impossible to change your perspective," I encourage you to read "Housekeeping for the Soul" as it takes you on the very familiar analogy of "housekeeping."

And for those of you who have been awaiting authors whose stories speak directly to your spirit, I am pleased to introduce Sandra Carrington-Smith. Bravo!

This is a beautiful book. The title drew me in as soon as I heard it. I imagined it was a book that would bring the soul back into mundane housekeeping, something I was looking forward to. The cover is as soothing and gentle as is Sandra's written voice. Her writing is clear and insightful.

To my surprise, it wasn't about bringing the soul into housekeeping, but instead to do housekeeping on our own soul. Still I took away a more thoughtful perspective on real housekeeping from her metaphors, and it brought back into the gentle art of caring for self.

The review on the back of her book says, "This is the first book to combine how-to, self-help and spiritual genres [...] [to] embrace a life of balance." That's amazing! Yet if there was one aspect of the book that didn't appeal to this one reader, it was the two little pieces at the end of each chapter, affirmations and a taste of the spiritual unknown. Why? I loved the writing in the chapters so much, I didn't want to shift gears. A lot of people like affirmations and explorations into different spiritual traditions, so you may in fact like the book even more for those parts.

This is a very intelligent book. It was a pleasure to read, and I will read it again.

QUOTES. Here are just a couple of examples of quotes that resonated with me.

--"One of the reasons our conscious mind becomes so cluttered is that we don't take time to process our daily thoughts and emotional responses."

--"Somehow we must remove the incessant needless distractions from our lives. We need time to go within and listen."

--"If we don't put forth effort to try to hear our own voice, why should we expect anyone else to listen to us.
