This is the REAL DEAL Jump & Swing!, July 27, 2004
This review is from: Houserocker (Audio CD)
I hadn't heard of Jimmy Cavallo, but by the end of this CD (which includes an interview at the end, in which he tells a story of near-miss stardom) I was an informed convert. Seems he is a saxophonist who was there at the birth of the 50's swing transition to Rock'n' Roll. This CD has some great ensemble playing with twin saxes and fun songs. Much of it sounds like Jay McShann and has a very Kansas City R'n'B feel. The first five tracks alone make it great to have; Lovin' Machine is a salacious up-tempo bopper, Fanny Brown is also a double-entendre (as in I want my Fanny Brown) but with a powerhouse horn section riff. This is small band swing played by a great band with humour and verve.
