Book Description

September 1, 2004
Astrology is an amazing tool for better understanding yourself, your friends, your planet, and the nature of Life itself. But how does astrology work? In HOUSES OF THE HOROSCOPE, Alan Oken explains that the natal horoscope is a blueprint and guide that creates a clear map to the self. He further explains how the positions of the astrological planets affect your life here on earth. Calculated for a person'¬?s date, time, and place of birth, the natal chart reveals a detailed portrait of an individual'¬?s relationship to the world. The various components of your natal horoscope reveal who you are, what you have to offer, and with whom you are most likely to share your talents, abilities, and love.

Editorial Reviews

Review

“Alan Oken places astrology in its proper perspective, as a guide to greater understanding of the universe and of one’s part within the greater whole.”—The Beacon

About the Author

ALAN OKEN forges a new field of study which he calls “soul-centered astrology”—distinct from the personality-oriented approach which is in vogue. This field of study emanates from Alice Bailey’s Esoteric Astrology, which calls for a higher level of interpretation, manifestation of the soul, and service. An author, linguist, and translator, Oken speaks and writes in seven languages and has lectured extensively throughout the world. Alan Oken also makes frequent media appearances and had his own radio program in his home city, Santa Fe, New Mexico. Oken is a student of the Work and Teaching of the Tibetan Master, Djwahl Khul, and is a member of the new Group of World Servers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solidly recommended for any seeking a deeper understanding of astrology, February 8, 2010
Astrology can be a difficult thing to understand. "Houses of the Horoscope: An Introduction" delves into the finer points of astrology, the house system, and how this applies to astrological practice. These houses apply to many aspects of the human experience, and Alan Oken does well in giving readers a comprehensive overview on the finer points of the art. "Houses of the Horoscope" is solidly recommended for any seeking a deeper understanding of astrology.

3.0 out of 5 stars somewhat disappointed, January 7, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a good, maybe even "great" book for beginners to astrology. The disappointment for me came by way of very high expectations, after having read the author's masterpiece from several years ago, "Soul-Centered Astrology", which contained everything about Esoteric Astrology that one could think of, except for explainig in any detail the esoteric meaning of the "houses". So I expected that this book would be much more esoterically oriented, and to my mind, it was pretty much the "usual stuff" that can be found in any book dealing with the meaning of the houses. I'm not saying don't buy it, just don't expect any great insights to explode into your mind.
