Excellent book for someone interested in any field related to real estate, architecture or construction. Very, very helpful in becoming familiar with zoning, land and construction of different types of homes. Lots of pictures and diagrams. Not just a bunch of reading.

This book should be a requirement for brokers, appraisers, and investors in residential real estate. The authors do a great job describing different house types, architectural styles, construction types, building materials, mechanical systems, and much more.

After reading this book, whether you are a broker, appraiser, or investor, you will be able to describe the physical aspect of the property better to third-parties involved in the real estate transaction. I highly recommend this book to anyone involved in residential real estate.

As a newly licensed realtor I found that there was much I didn't know about house styles and structure. I purchased this book on the recomendation of a home appraiser. I must say it has answered all my house design questions. Not sure of the differance between a bi-level and split-level home? You need this book! It covers all the aspects of house design from style and construction to the various systems needed to make the home a comfortable habitat. I keep this book on my desk to use as a quick reference manual for any house related question.

This book has become an essential for me in my real estate appraisal business. It's a great book for homeowners and any professional in different real estate and builing professions. There are illustrations where needed and author is outstanding on subject.

Although this book covers almost all the subjects related to house design & construction, it seems to need more rework especially on the last sections (Chapter 8 and ahead). For instance in Chap. 10 (pages 305-315), it hardly describes the type of doors and windows, without providing any further information about recommended sizes and thickneses.

First off, I must thank the other reviewers who helped me make the decision to buy this product. Especially, Mariusz Skonieczny an "Author" and product reviewer who did an excellent job of reviewing the book. It was the main reason that I bought this book. It is a good book to have in any real estate library. All Henry S. Harrison's products that I have purchased have been very good.
