Hip Hip Hooray for Houston Biodiversity!, June 30, 2008
This review is from: Houston Atlas of Biodiversity (Paperback)
This book is not the most scientific treatment of wildlife and flora in the Houston area, but it does a good job of celebrating the beauty that surrounds Houstonians. We, as Houstonians, are unfortunately seen as lacking appreciation for wildlife. While this is generally true, this book gives those of the Houston area - young and old - the opportunity to discover what is out there in our backyards. The book gives a good overview of the different habitats that make up the Upper Texas Gulf Coast Area. I recommend this book if you want to know what's out there and want to learn more about day trips that you can take around the area to observe nature. The bayous in the city are a great place to start! There weren't as many pictures as I had hoped. The maps are well thought out and easy to read. At some points, the author(s) get long-winded, but it is all in the celebration of the under-appreciated flora and fauna of the area.
