This review is from: John Houston's The Maltese Falcon (Paperback)
This is a review of The Film Classics Library paperback edition ofJohn Houston's THE MALTESE FALCON, my copy of which was published in 1974 by Avon Books. Yes, this is a large size paperback book that contains every frame of film and every scrap of dialogue that is to be seen and heard in the classic film THE MALTESE FALCON. As the back cover of this book proclaims: "Over 1,400 frame blow ups, every scene and every word of dialogue." Originally these Film Classics Library editions were published because most film fans did not and could not possess their own copy of their favorite films back in 1974. But since the advent of VCRs and DVDs most anyone can and probably does have copies of his favorite films, from THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY to the latest HARRY POTTER release. But these Film Classics Library allow a fan of THE MALTESE FALCON to appreciate every shot from each scene, all printed with publicity still like clarity, and each line of dialogue that goes with every frame of film at his or her own pace, as well as go from scene to scene at random say to do a continuity check on your own. And even better, because these volumes are very reasonably priced, they're nice souvenirs or scrapbooks of what my be your favorite film, something to page through occassionally discovering different details even from your favorite scenes, a quick and casual memory refresher. These Film Clasics Library editions are just plain fun to own and use and worth every penny of the usually reasonable purchase price. |
