Van Houtte Eclipse Extra Bold Coffee For Keurig K-Cup Brewing Systems 18 Count

As others have stated, this is an EXCELLENT bold, dark-roast coffee. Flavor that keeps on giving.

Unfortunately, Amazon and others only sell this in the 18-count box vs. the 25-count boxes of other flavors. That makes it much more expensive than competing brands.

We've been drinking Coffee People Donut Shop as our regular K-Cup, because we like the price and convenience of the 50-count box. But my favorite for taste had been the Newman's Own Organic Extra Bold, just don't like paying for it. Now, I think this Eclipse Blend is even better. Very flavorful, but nothing harsh or bitter about it. I also just found out that if you use the 20% off a single item coupon that a national retailer likes to mail out on a regular basis, you can get your cost down to about 49 cents a cup, pre-tax. Not too bad. If you like strong, bold coffee, but without the slight burnt notes that French Roast often has, this could be the one for you.

this coffee is really good. it has a bold flavor without leaving a harsh aftertaste. before this one, i really enjoyed van houtte's kenya kilimandjaro. i think eclipse is my new favorite. i'm also really enjoying newman's own special blend extra bold.

This is my favorite K-cup coffee for my Keurig. However, I like the idea of buying my k-cups at $20 for 2 boxes of 25 (50 k-cups totaling 40 cents for each cup). If you buy this box at $7.99 for 18 k-cups (like I use to), you're paying about 44 cents per cup. That's not bad but you still have to pay for shipping costs no matter how big you make your order. (Feb 2010 UPDATE: I've noticed that they've now doubled their price. They can kiss my "you know what", and they've probably noticed that I don't order it from them anymore.)

I guess we might have to write to Van Houtte Coffees directly and ask them why this isn't available at $20 for 2 boxes of 25. (UPDATE: Now it's about $23.00) We should also ask Van Houtte why other distributors are selling Van Houtte coffees at a lower cost than they themselves, the original source company.

Just like, if you own a Honda. You're better off buying Honda parts from an outside source instead of a Honda parts and service source directly. Honda sells their own parts at an unfair, unreasonable, non-competative mark-up price.

So, as for our favorite K-cups, most of those initial K-cup distributors charge more than other outside sources. The initial price per k-cup through those original source distributors are averaging about 55 cents per K-cup. Even if they have free shipping on larger orders that's still 55 cents per cup minimum.

Stick with Amazon though for the best price. Check and make sure you can get free shipping too. We can find better prices. Believe me.

Jim and I are always on the hunt for new k-cups to try. I was standing in the grocery reading the description on the box that included "powerful, bold, caramelized, syrupy body and spicy flavors" while he's giving me the stink eye because the last "interestingly" flavored coffee we got was the Godawful Jamaica me crazy. Eclipse isn't flavored though, so I guess they mean the coffee is spicy. we bought it anyway and thank goodness because it really is a great cup of bold delicious coffee.

Eclipse is excellent, a dark roast without being bitter or burned tasting. The body is smooth, I actually get what they mean by syrupy. Because I drink my coffee black, no sweetener or anything else, it has to be good on its own, and Eclipse is better than good. Before I tried Eclipse Emeril's big easy bold was probably my favorite bold, but Eclipse has eclipsed other bold coffees for me. Based on the pure pleasure I'm getting as I sit here drinking my eclipse, I am going to go try other Van Houtte k-cups and hopefully they will all be as delicious.

After reading these reviews, I went out and picked up a box of this stuff. Overall it is a decent dark roast, but I was disappointed at its bitter aftertaste. It has a decent flavor overall, but the bitterness lingers after your sip. If you're looking for a nice bold flavor without the bitterness, I would recommend Van Houtte Kenya Kilimanjaro, but my favorite is Green Mountain Dark Magic, which has loads of dark flavor without the bitterness. Espresso blend is good too.

I like my coffee strong and I've tried many K-cups looking for that combination of rich coffee flavor, but without any bitterness. The Van Houtte Eclipse so far is my favorite. Give it a try!

This is also my favorite coffee for my Keurig. However, since the company is Canadian the current state of the dollar is hurting us a bit. I noticed on the Van Houtte web site this morning (3-17) that the price of the 25 count box has gone up to $15.75. I was hoping to see the 25 count boxes here on Amazon, as well as a wider choice of the Van Houtte blends. Maybe Amazon's buying clout can keep the price affordable for those of us who enjoy the Van Houtte coffee blends...
