30 frames per MINUTE, not per second, May 26, 2010
This review is from: Hovercam X500 Scanner (Electronics)
I put this right to the test after receiving them.
First, I load the software and drivers which must be downloaded from the website listed on a postcard in the box. Plugged this in and started using it. The product description boasted 30 frames per second, which is about half the speed of a TV screen. This would allow for live presentation.
To my HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT, I found the screen changes ONCE EVERY TWO SECONDS. If I move my hand under the camera, I see blurs. This serves the ONLY purpose of using it as a scanner, NOT a visual presenter or as a "camera" as promised by the user manual or the website. Needless to say, I'm VERY DISAPPOINTED by how unprofessional the manufacturer is in misleading the consumer with their false specifications.
I contacted the manufacturer for information and this is what I received:
"To get higher fps, you need to set the video setting down to 800x600, not at the (2592x1944) 5million pixels per frame. USB 2.0 bandwidth is around 450Mbps, which can max us out at about 5 to 7 frames per second at the maximum resolution. We will make the description more precise on the web site."

Not too shabby really, August 23, 2011
This review is from: Hovercam X500 Scanner (Electronics)
I agree with the other reviewer that this thing is fairly slow for video, at least at the highest resolutions. But I got it to take photos of objects and it did a pretty good job of that. I really like its small footprint too. It can fold it away and it doesn't take up very much space at all. It's a good document scanner option for someone with not a lot of space.
