This review is from: Hovhaness: Symphony Nos. 53, 29 & 20/The Flowering Peach (Audio CD)
The music of Alan Hovhaness to mealways seems that it tries to take me to different places, somtimes deep journyes into the mind and the imagination, other times to certain places in particular. This time with "Star Dawn" symphony we travel to space and its endless distances...As for the "Grand Final Processional", we go back late renaissance, early baroque periods."The Flowering Peach" was written for a play, concidering the fact which writing music exclusively for plays is mostly an out of date practice, Hovhaness does a wonderful job, I really like his music, and his approach towards it. Christian Linberg and Ohio State University Band are well suited for the job, this is a great recording...Band music at its very best!!!!
