Book Description

December 15, 2003
How Arizona Sold Its Sunshine: The Historical Hotels of Arizona relates how hotels, inns, and lodges changed from tiny wooden and adobe structures of the 1880s with their questionable clientele, greasy beans and poor health standards to the swanky hotels of the 20th Century where film stars, politicisns the sick and the wealthy traveled to Arizona for sunshine, pure air and the natural beauty of Arizona's attractions. Explore 65 hotels, their founders, their clientele, their ghosts and their contributions to Arizona's history. Book features 85 historical photos of the hotels.

About the Author

I was lucky enough to grow up in Tucson Arizona, where I spent most of my time as a bookworm in the downtown library. Many of the hotels have personal memories for me. The book is dedicated to my mother who loved sitting in the hotel lobbies watching for film stars. Some of the hotels have been demolished, but most continue to shelter Arizona tourists. I began research on the hotels in 1999, and I have spoken to over 50 groups on the historical hotels. My joy has been collecting memorabilla from them. I now live in Sedona Arizona, where I continue to be a bookworm at the Sedona Library.
