Do you remember how you learnt about the birds and the bees? I learnt from this book but over the years I lost my copy! It just has to be seen to be believed, fully illustrated (have uploaded a piccie as an example)run-through of just how you and I got here.

In truth its the illustrations that make it too, they're hilarious! It's out of print so I had to get it second hand from America. Cost me $1.30. And then $12 to get it shipped. Worth every penny though, I still whip it out at dinner parties to shrieks of laughter.

I just love this book, it's definitely a slice of hippie life from 1975. I think it would have been shown to kids by parents who were proponents of Ina May Gaskin's Spiritual Midwifery, although they would have desired home birth over hospital, as a previous reviewer mentioned. FYI I am an OB nurse and nurse-midwife grad student, and I wanted to mention that the instrument the doctor holds is not really a hammer, though it could be seen as one. It's a fetoscope and was used to listen to baby's heartbeat before electronic fetal monitoring. It's like an old-fashioned ear trumpet that is put on mom's belly & amplifies the sound for the provider to listen. Some midwives still use them if a mom doesn't want excessive interventions in labor. Just had to share!

This is a great book! It's simple and honest. My mother read this to me from birth and I grew up being comfortable with the concept of sex and where babies came from. I'm so pleased I have been able to pick up a copy so I can read it to my kids.

This was the book I grew up with. Sharing it now with my own kids to teach them the facts of life and explain at their level how it all happens.
