About the Author

James O'Loghlin is one of Australia's most popular comedians and is well known through his various television and radio programs, including his roles hosting The New Inventors on the ABC. He is the author of A Month Of Sundays (Allen and Unwin, 2004) and Umm: A Complete Guide To Public Speaking (Allen and Unwin, 2006) --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

From AudioFile

This production describes what deters people from achieving or maintaining balance in their work and personal lives and makes suggestions about how to fix the problem. Drawing from his own life, comedian O'Loghlin tells how he reshaped his workaholic lifestyle into one that focuses on family and friends. There's no humor to be found, and O'Loghlin's delivery is rapid fire. Fluctuations in volume and swallowed words make the content difficult to follow, especially with his Australian accent and slang. While O'Loghlin reads admirably, he does not have much new to say about balancing one's life. Like many others, he emphasizes time management to increase productivity and reduce work hours. Format: Paperback
As there's no content page here on Amazon, I would like to take the priviledge to type one for your reference.

Part 1: Why you should balance your life
1. Why people dont lead balanced lives
2. "Let's go bowling!" - the creeping growth of the workplace
3. The benefits of balance
Part 2: How to balance your life
4. What do you want
5. How to reduce your working hours without reducting your income
6. Is your income negotiable
7. Rebalancing when your income may be negotiable
8. What if nothing works
9. Why employers should encourage work/life balance
10. Rebalancing for the self-employed
11. Making the most of your time

Although I dont think the content from Chapter 5 onwards applies to me at least not at this moment, I am obliged to express my appreciation of the author's good writing and insights. I dare not recommend a purchase but if you can borrow one from the library, read it!

p.s. Below please find my favorite passages for your reference

If you spend a lot of time working, it's easy to lose perspective and to measure your success and self worth purely based on what happens at work. Things like your boss's mood, a deadline for a client or the breakage of a photcopier take on monumental significance. You lose perspective. pg29

In an hour of work you can achieve a lot or a little. It all depends on how focused, motivated and uninterrupted you are. pg67

Remember the opportunity cost. Every minute you spend not working at work is a minute you could be elsewhere. If you are going to have some leisure time, why not spend it with your family, not at work?

James is a humble guy - likeable in so many ways but none more so than his obvious desire to create his own truth.

I am mum to an almost 40 year old, whose repeated complaint about lack of time I heard reflected in James' words, so I purchased the CD online and sent it to my son.

This CD offers fathers and other men not only good insight into a world beyond nine to five, but practical strategies for achieving change. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a real life. I eagerly await my son's reactions.
