Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

Glamour isn't just about having the right handbag—it's about having the right personality too and many of the world's most adorable women have been gorgeous inside as well as out. A glamorous woman has a magnetism few men can resist, yet all of us can attain it—even those without classically natural beauty. Many beautiful women lack glamour and conversely some of the most unusual looking women have glamour by the bucket load.

How to be Adored is a style guide with a difference, featuring secrets and advice from a roll call of history's most seductive women, including Marlene Dietrich, Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Jackie O, Debbie Harry, Sophia Loren, Gwyneth Paltrow, Princess Diana, Kate Moss, Gwen Stefani and Carla Bruni. In their own words they reveal how to achieve glamour and how to be adored by all you encounter. Professor of Fashion, Caroline Cox, fills every page with witty observations and entertaining anecdotes.

With masses of primary research you will be instantly drawn in by the juicy revelations about Hollywood stars past and present. How to be Adored is packed with useful information and advice, supported by wise words from those who know. And as you begin your glamorous transformation, remember what sixties film star Arlene Dahl said, ‘There's no such thing as an ugly woman. There are only those who have not realized their full potential.'

I loved this book. I have bought style guides before but they have left me feeling a bit inadequate. This one is really funny, absolutely full of tips and loads of hilarious anecdotes about past and present stars. It's a proper read by someone who has done her research and speaks to every woman not just a few. I loved 'Don't Look Like a Celebrity: Look Like a Star!' with advice such as 'Never date a footballer. They may be as rich as Croesus but they will make you look cheap' and quotes such as Cher's, 'The trouble with women is that they get all excited about nothing - and then marry him.' Lots of etiquette advice - and the fashion advice based on Audrey Hepburn, Sophia Loren and Kylie Minogue is excellent.

So the part of this book that SOLD me was the Marilyn Monroe Makeup how-to.
Do I do the full face? Oh no, I'd look like a Halloween Caricature!
But I did do the Marilyn Eyebrows and people LOVED it- kept asking where I got my brows did and i forwarded them to this book. Awesome. Love it.

This is a fun fabulous read with tips from famous stars of the silver screen both contemporary and histprical including Marlene Dietrich, Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Gwyneth Paltrow amongst others. It has great fashion and beauty advice that still stands the test of time and an important underlying message - you have to have personality and charm too and be nice to others, a message that many other style guides fail to address. I love the furry pink cover - its so cute and I found great anecdotes and stories about the stars I had never come across before - amazing research. Loved it!
