5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious
My wife and I laughed ourselves silly. The fact that we are of the persuasion of the the book's title probably has a little to do with this, but anyone would enjoy this book. Even (especially) if you happen to already be a reform Jew, don't pass this little book up.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty funny but...
I am a Jew-by-Choice (by-marriage) I found this book Hilarious, but my husband who is "ethnically" jewish found it bordering on racial slurs. Perhaps he hit too close to home... When he when to a cousin's bar mitzvah last week, he wore his tallit like a scarf! He didn't know how to put on one even though our reform rabbi wears one to every service! So, I get my loving...

This book is one of the funniest books I have read. I have tested this book on both Jews and non Jews, and they all laughed themselves to a near death experience ...

I have got so much laughters out of it, I'm considering conversion :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, on target. Gave me a name for what I am. I loved it!, April 6, 1998

I've been extremely reform for years, but until I found this book I didn't know what to call myself. Now that I know, I'll probably start to feel guilty and terrible. As soon as I stop laughing. This is one of the funniest books I have ever read. I wish it were longer.

When he when to a cousin's bar mitzvah last week, he wore his tallit like a scarf! He didn't know how to put on one even though our reform rabbi wears one to every service! So, I get my loving nickname back: shiksa because I actually laughed at this book! OY! Like many jews he really doesn't know what the Yiddish word shiksa translates as...

5.0 out of 5 stars It doesn't matter if you're Jewish..., October 25, 2008

This review is from: How to Be an Extremely Reform Jew (Paperback)
I'm a non-Jewish Asian-American yet I absolutely love this book. Many of the pages had me rolling in laughter. Highlights include making a yalmuke from a Mickey Mouse hat and the list of feast/famine holidays (I work in a Jewish hospital so the list is actually helpful!). The illustrations are hilarious. I love the book so much that I've bought over 6 copies throughout the years to give as gifts. And it's one of the few books I've read more than once. To those of you who don't like reading, don't worry -- this isn't a novel or anything with continuity. It's more like a collection of jokes, skits or observations of Jewish life.

It obviously helps to be Jewish as some of the jokes require prior knowledge or experience. But there is so much here that anyone who finds Seinfeld funny should enjoy it.

ps - I just bought 2 more copies!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious! Really. I'm still enjoying it., March 7, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: How to Be an Extremely Reform Jew (Paperback)
I read this months ago. It was funny, very clever, I laughed etc. Now, I keep finding things in it I didn't notice before. Was just thinking about Purim, leafed through the book again, and discovered "Glengarry Glen Purim," a "David Mamet Purim Play." The Passover Chapter has a Cole Porter version of one of the Passover songs. This is truly funny! Anyone who is offended should get over it -- it's classic satire, and much more intelligent than most other Jewish humor these days

5.0 out of 5 stars David Bader is a new, fabulously talented, literate humorist., May 27, 1996
By A Customer
This review is from: How to Be an Extremely Reform Jew (Paperback)
David Bader's, "How to Be and Extremely Reform Jew" is a brilliant and gentle picture of the frequently conflicted world of the Orthodox and Reformed Jew. The author has taken a sensitive subject and treated it with such such great insight and humor, that no one can reasonably take offense. Although the level of his humor is uniformly high, quoting excerpts does a disservice to both the author and the potential reader alike. I look forward to his next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars How To Outdo the most Liberal Judaism you ever knew, July 23, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: How to Be an Extremely Reform Jew (Paperback)
How to Be an Extremely Reform Jew, indeed!
What need have we for either the TORAH or TALMUD any longer when Mr Bader has completely reformed, or is it deformed, the holy Jewish religion?
We all know that the holy TALMUD and QABALAH are now available in paperback. But now the entire Jewish religion
is available in paperback. No need to wade through those tedious Hebrew and Aramaic texts any longer.
Want to know about the Jewish religion that is RELEVANT for the early 21st century? Pick up Mr. Bader's delightful
parody of Liberal Judaism. It will have you in stitches. No matter how you observe or don't observe, HOW TO BE AN
EXTREMELY REFORM JEW will inform you and reform you from your ignorance about how nonJewish our religion can really be and, at the same time, still be Jewish. Bader has performed a miracle greater than the splitting of the Sea!
