5.0 out of 5 stars A Rare Gem!, November 5, 2004

Dada showed up near my house for a concert in a smallish venue. A friend said they were good so I went. I was blown away. I didn't know any of their songs before that concert, but it was still great. Since that time I have become another dada fanatic. They are the greatest unknown band. It's too bad Pearl Jam, Nirvana and Rap took over the alternative scene, seriously. Give me back dada, Jellyfish, and Matthew Sweet any day. They also remind me of Oasis, but infinitely better. Dada always has great guitar work and rocking songs, and they also have ballads that will either totally blow you away or make you cringe, they are just so good that they belong back in the days of Beatles, before the world was so cynical. Most people aren't embarrassed to sing Temptations "My Girl" or Beatles "Something," but for some reason they don't want to go there with a "new" song. Dada can take you there. This album includes several of the best ballads written in the past decade. It also had edgy guitar work that is not for the weak and simple minded folk. They are behind the times and ahead of their time and that's part of their appeal, just damn good music. I would classify several songs from this album as 60s psychedelic. Like some of the other reviews have mentioned, you need to listen to a dada album a couple of times before it hits you. They have the best and most interesting harmonies out there today, excellent instrumentation, and unique lyrics (particularly Puzzle). This is a solid dada album. A side note: Puzzle has some of the most interesting songs I have ever heard, and if you haven't heard dada before, start there. The lyrics in this album are not as clever as El Subliminoso and not as perfectly produced at their 4th album titled dada, but this album can stand on it's own. I listen to this album more than 95% of the other albums in my huge collection. These aren't songs that you get tired of; they are songs that get better with each play.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not their best album, but still great, March 26, 2005
This review is from: How to Be Found (Audio CD)
I've seen Dada twice, once back in 94, after the release of American Highway Flower, and again about a year ago. There is no way you can possibly conceive how incredible a guitarist Mike Gurley is simply by listening to their recordings alone. He is phenomenal, and it is beyond me why they have gotten no air play whatsoever, besides Dizz Knee Land and Dim. Gurley is one of the most interesting musicians to listen to--his guitar work will captivate you, and you will be astounded by the sounds he can make with his instrument. If I had to say, "gee, I sure wish I could play guitar like him", I would say it about Gurley, he is by far one of the best. As far as How To Be Found goes, it's very good. Lots of nice rockers, "No one Like You" is an incredible song and "Love is a Weird Thing" is also very good, two of my favorite songs by Dada, and the two standout tracks on this CD. I think this follows nicely along the path Dada has started on since they began recording, and though it's not their best album, take into consideration what they've done before--how could you top albums like American Highway Flower or El Subliminoso?? Those are landmarks in modern rock. All in all, fans should not be disappointed by this album, I wasn't whatsoever. If ever Dada comes to your town, you better go see them--they put on one of the most incredible shows, and I guarantee if you like Dada now, you'll like them ten times more after you experience them live!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars They're alive!, March 20, 2004

This new album proves it, Dada is back in their full glory. As if they never went away, the band picks up right where they left off with How To Be Found. This is classic Dada that will excite old fans and has the power to draw new ones. I picked up this disc after seeing them on their 2004 tour. I have to admit, after such a long hiatus from the band, I was nervous that their new tracks would be altogether different than 90's run of albums. No way! Dada has not missed a beat. Not to say that the trio hasn't ventured into some uncharted territory since their last disc. There are definitely some new sounds, especially in track 2, "It's All Mine" where a retro Beatle-esque sound is prevalent.

How To Be Found is sure to become part of my top 10 CD list. After owning this disc for only 2 days (which I have signed by all three members) I am already falling in love with this entire compilation.

One of the greatest attributes of this group is the inspiration that is deeply rooted in their songwriting and performances both in the studio and on stage. Michael Gurley (vocals and guitar) geniously paints pictures with his style of guitar that has a blues feel and rock drive.

Pick up this album, it is a lot of fun and gives you something different to listen to rather than the continuous repetition of the same 24 songs on your favorite radio station. You will not be disappointed.

If you are going to buy this CD, and you have never heard of Dada before, purchase the Puzzle CD as well which is their absolute best single piece of work.

Becoming a fan of a band has never been easier. I am personally glad to see them return with such a strong offering.
