This isn't your normal advice book.

To be honest, I went in with a mental eyebrow raised. The title itself is enough to put any skeptic off of it. Despite what I initially saw as presumptuousness, I find myself continuously returning to the book for use as a guide when I'm feeling weary about new situations.

Unlike most guides which typically consist of novel-like wordiness, the book is very minimalist in design. The intro and epilogue each consist of only a simple list. Each chapter is comprised of several objectives that relate to the main point. Before you protest ("How is that part minimalist?!"), no objective takes up more than a page spread each. For every objective, a diagram or two will further illustrate the point, along with a short, expounding description (usually consisting of a few sentences, or two paragraphs each comprised of a few sentences). If you sat with it all the way, the book could probably be finished within an hour. (Or less, if you're speedy.)

The advice itself is simple as well. A lot of it focuses on not quelling who one naturally is, and instead expressing it. It encourages one to be daring about their endeavors, and explore different options available, including options that may not have been considered before. Jessica Hagy, the author, also advises the reader to take visits outside of their comfort zone. That said, she advises against doing things you don't want to do (as in, things that you don't feel right about), and dedicates a chapter to ways of being more humble. Throughout the book, Jessica sounds more like a well-meaning, straight-talking friend than a holier-than-thou guru far up on a pedestal. This is possibly one reason why the book is easier to stay with than most guides.

The advice found here can be summarized in a few phrases: be yourself, be open-minded, try new things. Nothing wrong with these ideas, but there's not much depth, to put it mildly. If you want to be entertained, and maybe inspired for about 30 minutes, give the book a try. Otherwise, look elsewhere.

Ok, the content, for the most part, was insightful, thoughtful, and made me giggle a little

That said, I thought that it would be a little deeper. By the end it read as a smattering of contradicting motivational mantras that a teenage girl would post on pinterest (stand up! be heard!...sit down! listen to all that is awesome in the world!). None of the "steps" were anything groundbreaking, but maybe my expectations were off.

Also, the kindle version is HIGHLY overpriced. I can see this being a cute coffee table book, but I a lot of the luster is lost in digital format, which is unacceptable when they cost pretty much the same thing.

Order the paperback; enjoy it as a lighthearted read and not as anything deeper.

Jessica Hagy is brilliant. She loves venn diagrams and graphs, and it is evident. Do not take this book as conclusive research however. Most of the images are essentially colloquialisms visualized .. but still great for visual/mathematically oriented people

I serendipitously found Jessica Hagy's publications on Forbes and was immediately captured.
I was struck by how much could be communicated by means of deceptively simple diagrams with few words.
Life made simple but by no means less interesting.
For certain a book to come back to time and again for inspiration.
This ebook should stand the wear and tear of time.

I bought the book on sale because it had a good title and a cool cover, but the contents struck me as not that helpful. I recommend you look inside or download a sample before buying. It might be someone's cup of tea. It wasn't mine.

This book is amazing. I enjoyed the book so much that I read it cover to cover from the moment I opened it. I am always looking for ways to fine tune my interactions with people, and this book had a wealth of information. Its rare that I come across literature like this. I was thinking while reading; that I am going to implement one step a day and repeat for the rest of my life.

So if your lacking lifestyle, seek adventure, or just plain want to get in touch with your human side, this book is for you.

Highly distracted book. it is an interesting book but it does not give you realistic steps to becoming interesting, nor does it cover the deeper levels of the science of what makes others interested, etc.
