I've read through a number of relationship books, and each of them offer something unique or interesting to improve your life. However, this book really takes the cake in not offering anything of substance. Many of the chapters rehash advice that are obvious even to "novices," such as "look your best; wear good clothes" or "be confident." It would be another thing if she expounded on these common topics, but she doesn't. There are tons of self-promotions to other products from her company, which is fine in moderation but feels sleazy in mass quantities. Even more incredulous to me is that many of the chapters are just Top 10 lists, including a Worst 10 Pickup Lines!

I was hoping for a serious relationship book and not a joke book. If you want a laugh, maybe you can enjoy this book. If you want serious advice, don't look here. I'm sure the author has the best intentions and is a great person, but I can't recommend this particular book in any way.

However, I do highly recommend other books as alternatives such as "How to Make Anyone Fall in Love With You" by Leil Lowndes, "Dating for Dummies" by Joy Browne (don't be put off by the title), and "If I'm So Wonderful, Why Am I Still Single?" by Susan Page.

I was suffering from dating burnout when I picked up this book. Sure, there were some things in here that I already knew and somethings I didn't have a clue about, but it was so funny that it made me lighten up. I was getting too serious about finding a "relationship", way too serious. I found out that women love men who read relationship books. When I told a few of them that I was reading this book about being "Irresistible" they said that the mere fact that I'm the kind of guy who wants to improve in this area makes me more irresistible. I admit that at first I thought some of the flirting techniques were "hokey" until a friend of mine dared me to use them! Boy, Was I surprised!!! He lost his bet. This authors approach worked almost every time. So I decided to re-read and use the book, practice figuring out a woman's love strategy, used other flirting approached, and I called the authors number to get secret #10 (Apparently she wants to see if people are really using the book.) She'll mail you Secret #10 and a newsletter. My new girlfriend and I (Yes, I said new girlfriend!) She loved line #10 on page 70, even though she later found out it came from a rel. book. Anyway, we just completed the compatibility form on page 159, I was nervous about doing it and finding out that we were all wrong for each other, but was delighted to have her rate me so high! Guess there is potential in this relationship. Don't just read this book for the humor--share it, use it and do what it says!

5.0 out of 5 stars Want YOUR guy to read a relationship book, this is the ONE!, December 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: How to Be Irresistible to the Opposite Sex: The Art of Dating, Mating, Long Term Relating (Paperback)
When you haven't been dating in while, you have to do something! This book gave me the courage to go back out there and give relationships another chance. Most of the books out there are negative towards men. I don't hesitate to show this book to women I am seeing. If they don't want to read it, that tells me something. I don't waste time with women who don't want to learn and grow. If they won't read an easy, humorous but insightful book like this, then they probably won't want to deal with other real life issues. Most women are thrilled to find a guy who takes the time to read a relationship book and share it with them. I'm a believer. I don't have a lot of time to read, and this book made it easy for me to read and re-read and get the results. Simply Effective! Whenever my friends complain about their lovelife, I give them a copy of this book. My buddy's house got robbed and they even took his copy of How to be Irresistible! Ladies, if you want a book that us guys will want to read and use...this is the one.

1.0 out of 5 stars words fail me, December 31, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: How to Be Irresistible to the Opposite Sex: The Art of Dating, Mating, Long Term Relating (Paperback)
Bad writing, incoherent lists, lame illustrations, before-and-after pictures that look no different or even more dorky, numerous sales pitches for her other books and programs - I could go on and on. The only information I got from this book was that I wasn't going to find the advice I needed in it. There are a few gems but nothing you can't find for free on the internet's many relationship sites. Save your money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flirting is part of dating!, May 5, 2005
This review is from: How to Be Irresistible to the Opposite Sex: The Art of Dating, Mating, Long Term Relating (Paperback)
After reading this book I realized that I just wasn't trying in the dating world. I never realized before that I didn't know how to flirt. I was being too cerebral! And I definately wasn't getting any dates. This book will show you some techniques to help break the ice. I had been making the guys do all the work and not flirting at all. What was I thinking?! This book gave me permission to go ahead and flirt. I have also done a retreat with the author. I noticed immediately following that I get more smiles and more looks that I can recall in years. I am a lot more outgoing and friendly now. Try it! You don't know what you don't know! If you suspect that you have forgotten how to flirt or just need some good ideas, buy this book. It's fun, approachable and makes dating fun again. Dating is supposed to be fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing book for Men and Women! Found Love Again!, December 24, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: How to Be Irresistible to the Opposite Sex: The Art of Dating, Mating, Long Term Relating (Paperback)
People who want to continue to blame their luck or circumstances will not like this book. If you are ready to take responsibility and create an action plan to find and keep love, read and use the book. While I found it entertainingly funny and to the point, I also found that the more I actually took time to systematically use the info, the more successful the results. I like that you can open it to any page and get something useful. At a recent relationship seminar I found out what John Gray of "Men are from Mars, Women from Venus" thought of this book: He said: From FLIRTING to HEALING LOVE'S WOUNDS, it's an AMAZING book!" That's why I bought it and I am glad that I did. My Personal WARNING: "Only use this book if you want to heal and are willing to GIVE UP YOUR LAME EXCUSES of why love is so difficult." Can't wait to read this author's next books.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not exactly an epiphany, March 10, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: How to Be Irresistible to the Opposite Sex: The Art of Dating, Mating, Long Term Relating (Paperback)
There are a couple of interesting things in this book, like a technique she describes for ranking items in a list, and her theory about how people react primarily to visual, auditory or kinesthetic(?) stimuli. However, I was REALLY annoyed with the excessive self-promotion in the book. I didn't buy the book so I could read advertisements for her services, for crying out loud! Parts of the book are embarassingly bad (like the pickup lines section), and in general the writing isn't very good (not engaging, poorly organized, not very profund). I personally didn't get much out of this book although your mileage may vary. I definitely recommend skimming through it before you buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book to get back in the mix!, January 23, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: How to Be Irresistible to the Opposite Sex: The Art of Dating, Mating, Long Term Relating (Paperback)
I would definitely recommend this book for those who have been out of the mix for some time. I work as a Software Engineer, and I was just about married to my job for almost 2 years. I had forgotten much about dating. This book brought back much of my know how in dating from what I remember before I took up such a time consuming job. This is a must have for very busy professionals looking for that spark in their life!

1.0 out of 5 stars a big waste of money, March 7, 2005
This review is from: How to Be Irresistible to the Opposite Sex: The Art of Dating, Mating, Long Term Relating (Paperback)
I purchased this book in search for some advice from an expert. This book consisted of lists of dos and don'ts when it comes to the opposite sex. Mostly common sense! What a waste of money and my time even reading the stupid thing! Not surprising since her other books about relationships are more of the same! Lots of useless lists, things to do, and role playing. Like taking a "course" at the Learning Annex and about as useful. A feel-good book for women with lots of fluff about charisma & chemistry. From "Loving University Press"--need I say more?
