1.0 out of 5 stars How to Become a Successful Commercial Model: The Complete Commercial Modeling Handbook
This book is NOT worth the money that the publisher has set. The Complete Idiot's Guide to being a Model is $10 cheeper and ten times better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely helpful guide for aspiring commercial models., March 5, 1999

This review is from: How to Become a Successful Commercial Model: The Complete Commercial Modeling Handbook (Paperback)
This book is a basic "how to" on breaking into the world of commercial modeling. It's easy and entertaining to read and tells you how to avoid the scams and get the jobs. I'd reccomend it for actors, who want to branch out to print work, and for anyone who looks at ads and thinks, "I could do that!" With Mr. Marcus's help, you probably could.

This book is a great resource for aspiring commercial models. It is laid out in simple terms with detailed step by step instructions to get you through the processes of putting together a composite sheet, finding an agent and photographers, and even finding work on your own. If you believe (like most people do) that you have to be 5'11" tall and a size 2 to work in the modeling field, you will soon see you are wrong. Most of the modeling going on in the advertising world today is done by commercial models, like Aaron. Here is a unique opportunity to take advice from someone who has worked in the industry and can point you in the direction of real success. If you buy this book, you are laying the groundwork for a successful career. I recommend skimming over it once, then going through it with a highlighter and pen to put in notes and highlight terms and things you want to remember. It is an invaluable resource for those of us in the commercial modeling field.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST READ, December 29, 2001
This review is from: How to Become a Successful Commercial Model: The Complete Commercial Modeling Handbook (Paperback)
I have now read this book 5 time in the last 10 days! I have never been more excited and enthused about this industry since I can remember. Although I have done a number of commercials, and some print work, I have missed out on jobs that I should have won. I now feel after reading this book, I will be much more effective at my auditions and marketing my portfolio. Whether you are just beginning, or a 20 year veteran, this book is a must read for commercial actors and print models!

We have used this book over and over again in our daughter's quest to becoming a commercial model. It is packed full of fantastic information on the TRUE ins and out of what it takes to be successful in the business. The photos are a great help and Aaron Marcus gives you advice no one else does. We just came back from LA and the IMTA competition with several callbacks for our daughter! We couldn't have done it without the help of this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars If you are interested in commerical modeling, then this book is for you, August 1, 2007
This review is from: How to Become a Successful Commercial Model: The Complete Commercial Modeling Handbook (Paperback)
I read this book hoping that it would give me some insight into the field that I was embarking on. I found the book to be an easy reader. I read it in 2 days because I am just getting my modeling career started. The book gives practical and realistic advice. Because the book was written by a model, the information to me seemed very relevant. The book is written as if Aaron is actually talking with you face to face. He is very real, direct, and straight to the point with his tactics to help you get started in the modeling industry. I knew I liked the author immediately when I saw how he used "thinking outside the box" tactics to get work.

As a result, of reading the books I have tried some of his methods; and it has worked. Currently, I am signed with three agencies because I followed the directions in the book. If that is not enough, I took the initiative to e-mail Aaron ( heck, I sent him my Comp Card);and he e-mailed me back and gave me some great constructive criticism. Even though, he was on his way to NY he still took the time to e-mail me back and he insisted that he would e-mail me with more in depth comments about my shots when he returned. Well, he returned and I got an e-mail from him. It really meant a lot to me because I was like holy smoke the author really cares about his readers. In addition, he has an informative website " how to model.com" that can be very helpful to new models.
This is a must for any new commercial model.

Thanks AAron,

Cheli

This book is a must-have for any and every aspiring commercial model. Aaron's advice is great, and his thoughtfully-prepared book really paints a clear picture of what it takes to get into the modeling business. The best part of the book is that Aaron provides you with his contact information--because of this, I have exchanged numerous Emails with Aaron directly. He is so helpful--and free with his suggestions and advice--that he gives you the confidence to give commercial modeling a try, if it's in your heart of course. I would highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone who is considering commercial modeling--you'd be lost without it!

Aaron, as Santa Claus, I thank you - your book stressed the value in our "being professionals" at auditions. Normally I'm a talker, a social person - but I permitted all the other bearded fellows to talk and socialize. I was on a mission Aaron, I WANTED to listen, watch my competitors, and WIN my first National TV ad. (still too soon to know the results, but the casting director said I stood out)! YOUR book was a part of my confidence base - I was prepared.

When I posed for a live headshot at the audition, I used your technique of finding the right memory to evoke the best image I wanted. As a result, my photo showed the magic and whimsey of Santa, not just my big ole Ho Ho Ho predictability. Yes, even Santa Claus recommends this book to all wanting to learn from a Master, Aaron Marcus!
