Excellent book! The style is easy to read. It goes back and forth from facts about counseling to a story that brings the points out in a practical way. It is really like two books in one. As a Christian who works with and often counsels I was very challenged and had to ask myself How Big Is My God?. We need to trust in the Holy Spirit to be the counselor and the promise of the Word.

Any Christian who finds themselves counseling others needs to read this book!

This book at first infuriated me by name calling me an athiest, (practical athiest). The author seemed to want to get your attention by whacking you in the face. It worked with me, but others may be tempted to put the book down before getting to the good stuff. This book will challenge you and console you without letting you offf the hook for your theological actions, (Read that: Faith lived out in action). It is the only "Christian" title I would quickly reccommend.

In 2007, after discovering that my father had died, I was very grieved. I came back to my hometown of Houston for his burial - which I would have missed had not God's Holy Spirit informed me that it was time to call my best friend, and after his burial I was still in a lot of emotional pain, wishing deeply that my father were still alive. One day, as I went out riding on my motorcycle, I asked Jesus to lead me to where I needed to go - a counselor - or someplace to find the answers that I needed to cope with the loss of my father. As I drove up Jones Road in Northwest Houston, toward Cypress, I felt drawn to this sign that said something about Christian Counseling in one of the office building complexes along the way. Somehow, I knew this was the place that I needed to go. They weren't open, but I discovered across the street that there was an administrative building related to the office and I went across to get information. They handed me copious forms to fill out - not what I either needed or wanted, and feeling a little dispirited and unsure about it all I decided to leave and spend time in prayer about it.

Praise The Lord, that as I was leaving, I saw a man in front of the counseling office across the street and decided then and there to go ask him about the counselor and if he knew when the counselor would return. He asked me why, and after I told him, he invited me into the counselor's office and handed me Bulkley's book and some other book and told me to read them, and that if I still felt I needed counseling after that to give him a call!!! Praise God!!!!!!! Not only did Jesus lead me right to the counselor, but he gave me precisely what I needed at that time!!!

I went home, encouraged, and now with an avid sense of curiosity and a mission.
