Good But Repetitive June 17, 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book was good on telling someone that doesn't have common sense or use their brain how to exercise their brain in order to remember and figure puzzles out. I thought it was well written, however kind of repetitive exercises, but worded differently. If your interested in psychology, and personal development then read as beginner book.

If you had read more than two books on thinking or of de Bono, you will certainly have the strong perception like mine that this is a collection of common ideas/theories/methods in the market. However, for new comers, I am obliged to say that it will be like a big shot of adrenaline to your mind if you really finish it through, which I think most of the readers can and will do easily with pleasure. It's simple, helpful and well written. In short, recommended!

p.s. Below please find some of my favorite passages for your reference.
The best assumption to have is any commonly held belief is wrong. - Ken Olsen pg13
The greatest challenge to any thinker is stating the problem in a way that will allow a solution. - Bertrand Russell pg15
When Greg Dyke became director-general of the BBC in 2000 he went to every major location and assembled the staff. They came expecting a long presentation. He simply sat down with them and asked a question. "What is the one thing I should do to make things better for you?" Then he listened. He followed this with another question, "What is the one thing I should do to make things better for our viewers and listeners?" pg21
When someone gives an answer we can often ask "Why?" The temptation is to plunge in with our opinions, responses, conclusions or proposals. The better approach is to keep asking questions to deepen our comprehension of the issues before making up our mind. Once we have mapped out the main points we can use closed questions to get specific information. Closed questions give the respondent a limited choice of responses - often just yes or no. pg23
When Jonas Salk was asked how he invented the vaccine for polio he replied, "I imagined myself as a virus or cancer cell and tried to sense what it would be like." Pg44
Ford Motor approached Edward de Bono how they could clearly differentiate themselves from their many competitors. Ford had approached the problem of competing from the point of view of a car manufacturer and asking the question, "How can we make our cars more attractive to consumers?" De Bono approached the problem from another direction and asked the question "How can we make the whole driving experience better for Ford customers?" His advice was that Ford should buy up car parks in all major city centers and make them available for Ford cars only. Pg44

Brilliant April 5, 2010
Format:Paperback
Paul Sloane is a creative, brilliant thinker and his latest book will help everyone to become a better thinker. His approach to the art of thinking is refreshing, easy to understand, and, most importantly, straightforward in the application of his practical suggestions. Anyone interested in opening up their minds to becoming more creative and innovative, and improving their thought processes must read How to be a Brilliant Thinker. It is a book I keep on the corner of my desk for reference when I need to be reminded about not becoming set in my existing patterns of thought, and I need practical suggestions about how to improve my thinking skills. The author exhibits an admirable way of writing--brevity but with enough content that each chapter is clear, understandable, and interesting to read. This is definitely a must read for anyone interested in creativity, innovation, and improving how they approach their thinking at work and in their personal lives.
