Scratch built motorcycles remain very popular. In order to simplify the process, many companies in the American V-twin aftermarket are selling kits. Three of these companies, Custom Chrome, Arlen Ness and Biker1s Choice, have excellent programs. All offer very complete kits that allow the builder to assemble a complete motorcycle without any additional purchases. All that1s missing is labor and paint. The book will document, with detailed photos and copy, the assembly from beginning to end, of three motorcycles from the firms mentioned above. Because of the technical nature of this book, there will be more images and less copy than in other Wolfgang Publication books. Each sequence will be illustrated by at least 200 images. Approximately 60% of these images will be in color. This book will also contain side-bars on tools and basic assembly techniques, all designed to aid the first time builder.

During his 20 years as an author, Tim has worked with everyone from bike designer Arlen Ness to kustom painter Jon Kosmoski, and metal fabricators like Ron Covell, Steve Davis, Rob Roehl and Craig Naff. Nice overview of building a motorcycle from a kit but not enough depth. I wish the author had spent time on engine installation, primary installation, and electonics. Good book but it is not going to help you when you get dirty with your bike project.

This is a good introduction to what is involved in building a modern "bike in a box", or a Harley clone, as marketed by any of a number of companies out there. It gives you some general tips and hints, a review of shop and tool requirements, then walks you through four pretty similar kit bike buildups. All are modern, all are soft tails, and it should give you an idea of what you're getting into. Doesn't mention the wide variety of bikes that can be built out there from catalogs - Old School lovers can look elsewhere. This is all about the new trendy "choppers" you see all over the place, which is okay if you're into that.

This book is an easy reading one. If you are looking for an introduction to Harley Davidson motorcycle kits overview, it is for you. Details on building RevTech Soft-Tail kit from frame, engine, transmission, suspension, electrical system, and etcetera are covered from the open box to finish. What I like? What do not?
