Absolutely, Positively a "Must-Read" for Anyone With Kids...,
By
This review is from: How to Build Rock Solid Kids (Hardcover)
If you're looking to have kids, drop what you're doing and get this practical, hands-on workbook that will teach you more common-sense child rearing attitudes and actions than any book I've seen. It's all laid out simple, easy-to-read format and all the information is highly applicable to anyone looking to raise happy, healthy kids.Mr. Hafner's "12 Foundation Stones" have become a family constitution for me and my kids. This is a great, great book! I highly recommend it for anyone planning to have kids, or who is currently rasing little ones, like I am.

An applicable tool for todays kids!,
By Mark Goblowsky (Bellevue, NE United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: How to Build Rock Solid Kids (Hardcover)
What a great book! Well written, easy to follow and applicable to children of all ages. Mr. Hafner appears to have done his homework. The twelve "foundation stones" or areas Mr. Hafner covers are critical to the sound development of children. The exercises are great tools to help parents prepare their children for a well balnced life of value. An easy read with sound principles that will pay huge dividends for children and parents alike.I found the exercises outlined at the end of each chapter extremely valuable. In going through the exercises you get to know your child and understand him/her better. This was a really neat surprise for me. As a parent I feel that this is probably an area that is often overlooked in our child rearing. This book makes getting to know how your child thinks and what they think about simple. The exercises help prepare kids, in a simple, and understandable way, for life. Whether that is going to grade school soon, high school and work later or college in the future. It's never too late to start doing a great job as a parent and this book makes it possible. If you aren't sure exactly how to raise descent, responsible, clear thinking kids than this is a great resource. If you already think you know how, I would recommend the book anyway becuase when it comes to raising kids you don't want to leave things to chance and Mr. Hafner pretty much covers all the bases. Well done!

Rock Solid Families,
By T Ramsey (Silver Spring, MD United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: How to Build Rock Solid Kids (Hardcover)
"It takes a village to raise a child..." True? But so often today, there is little or no family support. It takes someone like Keith Hafner, who truly cares about children and families, to really help parents. Mr. Hafner has given busy parents several, easy to do exercises to bring families closer together and if needed change a child and family for the better. The biggest benefit of doing these projects is attention children will receive from the parents. I immediately found things that I wanted to change about my parenting, and I think of myself as a good parent.

I'm extremely impressed with both the comprehensiveness of this book - and, it's ease of application.I've been an educator for close to 30 years - and, rarely do I see a recource - like Building Rock Solid Kids - that I'd be willing to recommend - and, frankly promote to every parent that I encounter. It's great - if you are a parent or educator - read is right now!

"This book should be on every parent's or future parent's bookshelf...it would help them with excellent character growth and development methods and tools."Furthermore, if our teachers were to read it and then teach and affirm the character traits daily, our schools would be a much more fun and disciplined environment to learn and socially interact. I know...I've been emphasizing and encouraging this type of learning for over 30 years now in our martial arts school in Delaware...and you know what? It flat out works! Get the book and read it...no study it so that it becomes your reality in your family setting...you'll be glad you did...And so will the rest of the community!

A Nice Blend of the Philosophical and the Practical,
By A Customer
This review is from: How to Build Rock Solid Kids (Hardcover)
For parents who have the courage to live the kind of life they are asking of their children, this book will be a great help. Be aware, it focuses on such unpopular topics as physical fitness, self-control, confidence, honesty, responsibility, courage, and many other "old-school" concepts. Each chapter contains a concept i.e. honesty, and asks parents to evaluate how they are already teaching their children about that concept (sometimes positively, sometimes negatively). Each chapter then provides several weeks of exercises to complete on our own and with our children. I think it does a very nice job of taking potentially complicated concepts and bringing the key elements into focus. Elements like: What have our actions taught our children about honesty? Do we demonstrate the self-control we are demanding of our children. Like most parents, I feel our 2 children are already on the way to being well-adjusted kids, and this book will help us to cement that. To parents willing to let the light of their own actions guide their children -- If you're willing to teach your child honesty by returning the incorrect change to the cashier -- If you're willing to teach your child about self-control by turning off the television and sitting down and reading books when they do -- If you're willing to teach them about physical fitness by staying healthy and fit -- Buy This Book

Rock Solid Advice!,
By Susan Bachman (Pittsfield Township, MI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: How to Build Rock Solid Kids (Hardcover)
Straight forward and down to earth, this book is built on rock solid principles! If followed, they will work.I love the format. It's concise, elegantly written and easy to follow. The 12 foundations are peppered with anecdotal evidence and each section has valuable exercises to follow with your children. Are the concepts taught here old-fashioned? You betcha. Are they out of date? Only if you think that self-control, responsibility, honesty, courage, etc. are out of date. I don't think think so. Good read! Great advice! Thanks so much to Keith Hafner.

I wish I'd had these great ideas for raising kids when mine were born! Having plans and goals in print make it seem so easy. It's easy to read, and easy to see my family in the stories mentioned throughout the book. My kids are teenagers now, but I can still use many of the skills demonstrated in this book to send them out into the world when they become adults!
