Book Description

November 2, 2011
From battling ADHD and other mental illnesses and disorders like Psychotic Depression, for years, Dave has struggled with his mental illness and addiction. He has built his world with his decisions and actions, pushing away everything he wants to hold close.

Let Dave Monroe teach you how he built his house with no doors. Boxing himself into a corner of the world that many don't even know exists. Monroe's memoirs; traversing fact and fiction with an occasional voyage between reality and illusions are full of highs and lows that run through hospitals, jails and the not so occasional liquor store. It is an honest look at a hard life. Monroe holds nothing back and the emotion shines through.

Compelling as it is, you will find this book hard to put down.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Although Hyper Activity, ADD, ADHD was the starting point, I found out the hard way that untreated ADD / ADHD can blossom into a myriad of problems and mental illnesses including but not limited to psychotic depression. Just because someone has mental problems doesn't make them crazy. With the right treatments there is hope for many that suffer from these types of disorders.

I have been given many great opportunities in life and have managed to screw most of them up. Maybe that is why now, later in life, I am desperately trying to make good with what little I have. Sometimes, it seems like it's an impossible task, and it probably is... but I just have to make sure that when I do take a 'dirt-nap', and I tell myself I was a good man and did good things, that I am not lying to myself.

My memoir is intended to be pseudo-therapy for me and hopefully entertaining and educational for others.

About the Author

Dave has his own philosophies of life as it can only be seen through his eyes. Never afraid to tell people what he thinks and then explain the details to anyone willing to listen. Mathematical in thought and on a constant quest in discovering himself and the world around him, his writings are sometimes theoretical and emotional. Covering topics from his own life experiences growing up and fighting authority, the accepted norm and even fighting himself along the way, to his theories on working for corporations and exposing the corrupt people that run them. Dave is able to add a little fact to fiction and a little fiction to facts, while at the same time delivering stories that explain the events that life itself has presented to him and told only as he could tell them.

More About the Author

Dave Monroe has spent most of his life between Rochester, NY and Washington, D.C. while making brief pit stops and port calls around the globe. Most of his art, either in the form of a website concept, a novel or a short story is comprised of great imagination traversing fact and fiction with an occasional voyage between reality and illusions.

Dave has never been known as one that goes with the flow or follows the leader in today's micro-managed, cubicle restricted world. He has always put more value in the areas of life that many overlook. After rockin' through high school listening to heavy metal, trashing a promising career in the US Navy and only attending a few semesters of college, Dave finally settled down with his wife Susan, who he met in Arizona and married in 1995.

After Dave's marriage to Susan, he moved back to the Washington, D.C. area and worked for IBM and other technical companies. He then opened his own restaurant franchise which he later sold back to the person he purchased it from. He still maintained a role in the franchises corporate offices as a manager for corporate stores and a trainer for new franchisees. Dave was also a self employed, certified Compaq and Hewlett-Packard technician, Western Digital Reseller, and a general service technician for just about every computer manufacturer there is.

Then Dave started to think about writing short stories and eventually books. His first book; "How I Built My House With No Doors" is an honest look into his hard life, and describes in great detail his memories about his schools, his loves, his careers and all the decisions he's made along the way.

Some of his adventures in life have been criminal. Some seemed to him, at the time, to be good ideas with good intentions and all had mixed results. Dave can be described as theoretical in thought and often pragmatic in practice. Dave definitely has many stories to tell as only he can tell them, and he is always searching for new ways to be creative.

4.0 out of 5 stars good book, January 20, 2011
This review is from: How I Built My House With No Doors (Paperback)
Easy to read*
Interesting stories / life events
It was obviously written from the heart
Mr. Monroe has a unique way of projecting his voice through his writing

Overall:

I agree with the reviewer that said "Dave has the ability of becoming a great writer." He certainly does and I will read his work again. I suggest that if he does write another book, he should invest in a professional editor / proof reader. The book appears to be self-published. I think many of the errors I found in the book would have been fixed, if he had an agent and published it through a real house.

This review is from: How I Built My House With No Doors (Paperback)
I'm not good at reviews... I don't like to read books, I'm more of a tech manual reader, but I read this straight through. I've known the author for about 14 years online, this explains a lot. I feel a little better about my life and how it's gone after reading what he's gone through. I think that with a little more work, Dave has the ability of becoming a great writer. Good luck to you, sir!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good stories - Great read, May 17, 2011
This review is from: How I Built My House With No Doors (Paperback)
Mr. Monroe's book is filled with stories from childhood to present day. It contains a little bit of everything from love and crime to addictions with drugs and alcohol. I think there is supposed to be a message or a few messages in the book if you read between the lines. It is a very easy and good read. You can tell that it was written from the heart. The stories get better the deeper you read into the book.
