About the Author
Terri Shumsky has bred Italian Greyhounds, Chihuahuas, Shih Tsus, and particularly Yorkshire Terriers (under the Vassar Square kennel name) since 1970. She was approved a a judge in 1980 and has officiated at a number of all breed and specialty shows. Terri is also an accomplished writer, having had articles published in "Yorkshire Terrier Magazine," "Yorkshire Terrier Annual," and the "AKC Gazette."

This is a great book! Terri covers every aspect of finding, buying, training, breeding, and caring for a dog. Lots of up-to-date easy to understand detailed information. Extra information on toy breeds including Yorkies. I bought a few extra books and gave them to friends.

I bought this book years ago and it has been a constant companion. It contains information on all aspects of dog care.
It explains, in easy to understand terms, how to find a reputable breeder, dog care, breeding info, dog health and so much more. Terri was a exceptional breeder and a true pioneer in the dog field. She gave all she had to benefit Liver Shunt research so our animals would not have to die needlessly. I LIKE TO GIVE THIS TO ALL MY YORKIE BUYERS but it is getting harder to find since her death last year.

We've used this book as a resource for many years. if you are going to breed dogs and raise litters of pups, you MUST have this book. The only part of the book I disagree with is about removing the dewclaws and everyone has a different opinion about that, so I am fine with the authors synopsis of it.
Even if this book is out of print you should buy a used copy.
