PreSchool-Grade 3-- While on a camping trip, an eight-year-old girl, fascinated by dinosaurs, finds a live one in the desert. From research she has done in school she determines that he is an Albertosaurus, so calls him Albert. Her parents obligingly let her keep him, since they had promised her any pet she wanted for her birthday, and they arrange for him to be towed back home. Albert turns out to be an endearing creature with a sweet, if ghoulish, face and a gentle disposition--shy but predisposed to children. He settles into his new home happily and finds an overwhelming reception when taken to school. Young readers, as well, will take to Albert and this captivating story. Wonderfully deadpan illustrations in pen and brush capture the personality of Albert and the warm humor of the story. Albert is sure to capture the attention and affection of most children, and most libraries are sure to want at least one copy of this winning story. --Sally R. Dow, Ossining Public Library, N.Y.
