The first 100 pages of this book deal with how good this method is and how wonderful Dr. Shettles is. That may be true, but not very useful. The key aspect of sex selection is the timing of intercourse around ovulation. This and all other aspects of fertility are explained in much clearer and greater detail in the wonderful book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. She provides LOTS of charts and examples and photos to help you track your cycle compared to just three sample charts in Dr. Shettles book. She also summarizes the techniques for sex selection in a separate chapter, and it makes a lot more sense after her detailed explanation of overall cycle tracking. If you're really focused on sex selection, you may gain some extra from Dr. Shettles book (like who should and shouldn't drink coffee), but it should be read in combination with Toni Weschler's book, which will answer any practical questions you have left.

My sister introduced me to this book when she and her husband decided to have their fourth and last child (1st three are boys)She followed the book to a tee and had a little girl.I was blessed as well with a son and three years later with a daughter after following the suggestions. This book is a useful tool to really understanding the mechanics of your reproductive system. It is not MAGIC(approx.80% success rate), But is based on scientific evidence that will greatly improve your ability to conceive the gender of your choice. It describes about how to chart your ovulation and learn WHEN you actually ovulate. You need to do this for several months before actually implementing the plan.In a nutshell,it all has to do with the TIMING of your intercourse in relation to the time you ovulate(three to four days prior to ovulation for a girl and as close to ovulation as possible for a boy).It is described in detail and the scientific data supplied. Not everyone ovulates on day 14 of a menstrual cycle.Understanding factors such as stress, illness, diet on your ovulation are explained and will help you learn to know your body.Remember, ALL CHILDREN ARE A BLESSING, GOOD LUCK!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars How to Choose the Sex of Your Baby, June 13, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: How to Choose the Sex of Your Baby (Paperback)
A Wonderful and Successful System - My wife read this book long before we attempted to have any children and I was skeptical. She explained the process, which is envolved. It was completely worth the effort to follow the formulas as described in the book. We now have four children, two older boys and two younger girls, exactly as planned. This book was 100% successful for us and our family.

After reading and understanding the theories that were explained in the book, we tried it and it worked. The instructions were based on the fact that the baby's gender is primarily based upon the Ph (acid/alkalinity) of the bodies of the male and female at the time of conception. I think there were 5 to 10 different factors that could be pushed in one direction or the other to make it more likely your baby would be a boy or a girl. And for us, it worked each time.

I have recommended this book many times over the years and if you want to achieve a special desire in terms of the sex of your offspring, follow the steps in this book and I wish you all the happiness you desire for yourself and your loved ones. Good Luck!

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes! It worked... And it could for you too!, November 26, 1999
This review is from: How to Choose the Sex of Your Baby (Paperback)
Someone I work with told me about this book. After having two lovely girls, I was about ready to try anything for a boy. I gave the book to my wife for an Xmas present. In February, we conceived a child. Our son Michael Ralph was born two weeks ago, and he means everything to us! We are so blessed, and happy that words alone somehow can't fully explain it. It still feels weird because I guess I was just so used to having girls. Anyway, be sure to read both chapters on the girl and boy, so you know what to do, and what not to do. Most of all, you must be willing to love whatever the Lord blesses you with. I really believed in this book, and would highly recommend it. In fact it is amazing how long the book has been out (first edition 1970). Be sure to follow the method, and have fun.

Good Luck to all!

I found this book very informative. We lost our son and daughter in a car accident in 1996. We now have two sons that we love dearly, and wanted to give it one more try for a (another) girl. We went into it with the understanding that it could easily be a boy, and that was fine with us. We tried the methods very carefully and also used the book,Taking Charge of Your Fertility, and with the total understanding of my body, we now have baby Emily who is 8 weeks old. Good luck to all, but make sure you go into it with the fact that it could go either way and girls are harder to get (timing wise).

5.0 out of 5 stars It worked!, October 25, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: How to Choose the Sex of Your Baby (Paperback)
This book is based on over 30 years of research. It all boils down to timing of ovulation in respect to intercourse. If you are serious about wanting a boy or a girl, this book is very informative. BUT...YOU NEED TO READ THE ENTIRE BOOK! Not just bits and pieces or one chapter. You need to understand how sperm work (life span, hardiness, difference between boy producing sperm and girl producing sperm) and how to figure out your ovulation pattern. You have to be dedicated and do the test cycles to find out the ovulation pattern for your body before you try to conceive. But please remember the success rate is 81% for a boy, 74% for a girl. We wanted two children one of each. We were blessed with a girl! And our next baby we tried for the boy. We have a 12 week baby boy!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book worked for me, November 23, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: How to Choose the Sex of Your Baby (Paperback)
My husband has two sons from a prior marriage. When we decided to have children of our own, we wanted the first child to be a girl. I purchased the book early this year, followed the instructions for having a girl, and became pregnant. I am now four months pregnant, and the results of my amniocentesis show that we are expecting a normal baby girl next year.

At this point, all I know is that this book worked for me. As with anything in life, however, there are no 100% guarantees. Anyone using the methods described in the book to try to conceive a baby of certain sex must be ready to accept disappointment if the desired results are not obtained. Regardless, if you want to maximize your chances of having a boy or girl rather than simply leaving things up to fate, then this is the best way to go.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good book, but it didn't work for us!!, January 14, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: How to Choose the Sex of Your Baby (Paperback)
Everything in the book seemed to make sense. When trying for our second child we followed the boy method to the tee. In fact, we got pregnant on our first try, but conceived a beautiful little girl instead of a boy!! I was shocked when the Ultrasound tech said "It's a girl".. Believe me we are NOT disappointed at all, she is a ray of sunshine!! I just want folks to know that there really is a possiblity that this book's methods won't work for them also. As the book states, have a child because you really want a child, regardless of the sex of the child. We are going to try one more time, but will probably try another method.

4.0 out of 5 stars This book really works, September 14, 1999

This review is from: How to Choose the Sex of Your Baby (Paperback)
This book does a great job of teaching women about theirmenstrual cycles and how the timing of their cycles will help them notonly get pregnant, but also increase chances of conceiving either a girl or a boy. I used these methods when I conceived both of my children and it worked both times! Now I have my boy AND my girl.

Read the book probably 5 times, charted temps, used ovulation predictor kits. Now having my 3rd boy. I'm very happy with my baby, but just wanted to add my 2 cents that it didn't work for us.

Good Luck!
