This book is designed to be a practical resource to help people who are owed child support to collect it. It is written for both lay persons and lawyers. For the most part, the text is non-technical enough for the lay reader to understand; yet enough information is given to be useful to the lawyer as well. The introductory parts of each chapter will mean more to the lay person, while the statutes will mean more to the lawyer, as will the forms.
Each chapter in the book is organized in more or less the same fashion: First, the collection technique in question is described, followed by a discussion of how it works. Then, step-by-step instructions are given. Next, the applicable statutes are reprinted, followed by selected case law. Each chapter concludes with a number of legal forms.
This book is not a text on obtaining yet more promises by an obligor to pay. By the time one is reading this book, many promises have been broken, and it is time for action. Former mayor R.L. ("Uncle Bob") Thornton, Sr., gave Dallas its unofficial motto during a construction boom: "Keep th' dirt flyin'!" This motto embodies the approach taken in this book - that talk is cheap, what counts is results, and the time to act is now.
