About the Author

Harvey L. Cox is a licensed attorney and certified mediator in the State of Texas. He has been in the private practice of law since 1990. His practice is devoted primarily to the collection of judgments. All the information in this book is from his own first-hand experience collecting Small Claims Court, Justice Court, County Court and District Court judgments. All the legal forms in this book are from his law practice. They are the same forms he uses in his day-to-day practice collecting judgments.

More About the Author

I am a Texas lawyer and certified mediator. I have been practicing law since 1990. My offices are in the central Texas towns of Mexia and Waco.

My practice areas include creditor/debtor law, including both the collection of debts and asset protection planning, estate planning, medicaid planning and child advocacy, which is primarily focused on representing children who are caught up in the Texas CPS system.

I believe the legal profession can and should do more to make the law understandable for everyday life. Personally, I find that well-informed clients are the best clients. It is with that goal in mind that I write my books. At this time my writings focus on creditor/debtor legal issues. I plan to expand that in the coming months encompass more areas of Texas law.

You can stay up to date with creditor/debtor issues in Texas at the Texas Judgment Collection Center (http://texasjudgmentcollection.com).

It is a plain english explanation of the process of collecting a judgment. The most essential part is the fact that it is geared for Texas. As a homestead state, Texas has laws that are very different from non-homestead states and getting a general book on Judgments, not specializing in Texas, is a frustrating experience in that you don't know what applies in Texas. The relavant forms are in the book as well as the specific courts dealing with Judgments. I would describe the book as essential.

The book has paid for itself many times over. I have a number of judgements that are too small to hire attorneys to collect. This book has made the process easy, and Mr. Cox does a wonderful job of explaining the steps required to collect judgements.

Harvey’s book, How to Collect Your Own Judgment in Texas, fills a very important niche in the collection’s landscape. For judgments too large to ignore, but too small for a law firm to handle, his how-to guide, and simple to understand forms, allows JC’s to keep the maximum amount of their hard won cash…!
For very stubborn debtors, Harvey clearly lays out the process required to navigate the Justice Court system, even in jurisdictions as large and complex as Harris County.
If you’re looking to increase the return on investment of your judgment, I can’t recommend Harvey’s book enough.
