5.0 out of 5 stars One-of-a-kind book, February 18, 2004

This review is from: How to Color Comics Volume 1 (v. 1) (Paperback)
This book is really really HARD to obtain. There are only a handful of publications of this book. If you have a copy of it (like I do), don't part with it!!

There are about 100 pages in this book, which are colored obviously. It covers almost ALL the computer graphic (CG) coloring aspect known in the comic industry. Everything from basic color layout to sophisticated special effect (like making clouds, glowing eyes, etc). Art are referenced to the Antartic Press Studio (like Gold Digger, etc).

Again, I can't say how impressed this book is. It is loaded with information (i.e., one page have typically 2-4 smaller panels in it). If you can master all the materials in this book, you should start looking for a syndicate/sponsor. Please remember a couple of notes: 1) this book is mainly focused on comics (particularly anime-style), though you can applies these to real-life illustrations; 2) this book requires you to have Adobe Photoshop (any full version from 3.0 to 7.0, LE-versions would not work); and 3) lastly, this book demands that you got your drawing basics down! It does not cover any drawing instructions at all. So before you start up your Photoshop, you should see that your drawing foundation is firm.

This book also includes a CD (that's why the list price is so high). CD includes all the black and white images for you to practice. It also has lesson images (images with notes on it). And a large array of custom brushes and color swatches that will greatly improve the productivity of your coloring. This is one-of-a-kind book and you can't find anything similar to this. If you can't get this, there is another publication coming out called "How to Color for Comics." I predict it will be similar but with even more details. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute Gem, July 23, 2010

This review is from: How to Color Comics Volume 1 (v. 1) (Paperback)
This book is simply a pearl. At first I was confused that the How to Color Comics volumes were identical, but this book is actually much smaller (in terms of stature, not necessarily page length) than the other version. However, its equally impressive in teaching the techniques to color comics in a professional manner. I'm just happy that I was able to obtain it, given the scarcity of this volume.
