Good, Comprehensive Book for Beginners,
By lycia109 "lycia109" (San Francisco Bay area) - See all my reviews
This review is from: How to Communicate with Spirits (Paperback)
Having had some recent, very unusual experiences, I bought this book on the recommendation of other Amazaon.com customers. They were right. _How to Communicate with Spirits_ was good for a beginner.
Owens wisely starts the book with some basic definitions of mediumship terminology to ensure reader understanding. In addition, she validates the necessity of skeptism and invites readers to "take what you like and leave the rest". The content of the book is comprehensive, well-organized and easy to read. I finished the book in less than a day and felt satisfied that much was learned about this subject though I may not agree with her on some points. My only real criticism of this book how Owens down-plays the possible existence of evil spirits and the need for individuals to protect themselves when exploring spirit communication. It is my strong belief that people *should* be careful in opening themselves to the unknown. People should have some protection around themselves. A person wouldn't walk dark, unknown city streets alone and unprotected, right? ;0)

It all depends on how open your mind is.,

This review is from: How to Communicate with Spirits (Paperback)
As a student of Spirituality I have read a great deal of books on this topic, and I must say that this is by far the best that I have read. Elizabeth Owens takes the reader by the hand and leads through a wide variety of experiences. A certified medium and ordained Spiritualist minister, Ms. Owens is full of knowledge herself, however, in "How to Communicate with Spirits" she brings in the words of her peers, numerous other professional mediums, in an easy to comprehend, yet extremely interesting text.
It has been said that 60% of the population has experienced some sort of paranormal or spiritual event. I imagine that number will grow from this book's existence. It opens the eyes to sometimes subtle signs that spirit is around us, and the related stories help open the mind to seeing them. Ms. Owens explains the process of identifying and classifying our spirit guides and understanding the presence of other entities. From your first awareness of the spirit realm to the practice of meditation and communication, this practical guide will reaffirm what you may already know but it will likely help you to discover so much more. The affirmation of my own personal beliefs was comforting, and the stories were such that I could relate to, but I think the crown jewel of this book is the final chapter, "Meditations for Communication". This chapter is a specific guide to meditation. It contains three "scripts" that the reader is encouraged to record for their personal use. Each script is thorough and well executed and has a different feel as portrayed in their titles: The Mountain, The Beach and The Castle. For the novice to this topic, a generous glossary reveals the meanings to terms such as: Synchronicity, Chakra and Spiritualist. Whatever your interest level, I can almost assure you that you will learn something from this book. It all depends on how open your mind is.

How to Communicate with Spirits,
By Marie Lilla (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: How to Communicate with Spirits (Paperback)
This book was written to express Life after Life. It was done in an easy to read way with excellent experiences from people who have experienced with no doubt. I know people who read it will become more aware of Spirit connection and communication and will be so helpful to those who have lost loved ones - it will be so comforting to know they are still with us.

Truely Awful,
By Claudia "Clods" (New Zealand) - See all my reviews
This review is from: How to Communicate with Spirits (Paperback)
I thought this book was going to help me develop my psychic skills, learn ways to improve my intuition and perhaps some meditation to relax, and open the way.
It did none of these. It was full of hearsay - little tales of other peoples' experiences, things that had happened to them and written as if aimed at a 6 year old. I found myself reading on, desparate to get to the bit where it came to how you actually talk with spirits. My heart sank every time I put the book down. Yet another waste of time, and more little stories of people I don't know. Don't waste your time with this one, but if anyone can recommend a book that does help you develop your skills, please let me know!

I found this book to be so helpful. It was very easy to read and I simply loved the experiences of the other mediums. It was nice to read what others have experienced, and not just from the author, but from other mediums as well. I found the author funny and loved the stories. Terrific!

Opened My Eyes!,

Wow, I never knew I was capable of communicating with spirits! I loved this book because it was easy to understand and the author has humor. I found the stories amusing and amazing, and I liked hearing from different mediums on how they developed their abilities. It was very helpful to me to learn about others experiences so that I know I'm not weird, but what I've seen is natural. Thank you for an excellent book!

TOTALLY WORTHLESS,
By
This review is from: How to Communicate with Spirits (Paperback)
The author totally lacks substance for this interesting subject.
The only good part of this book is the title which is totally misleading. Anyone who contacted a spirit after reading this book is dead themselves. There are other great books on this subject which actually challenge your thought process. This book challenges nothing and offers nothing. The spirits are even laughing at this one. |
