Editorial Reviews

Review

Have you ever been to a bad meeting? Who hasn't? This book will help everyone run more productive and motivating meetings. Don't miss it! --Ken Blanchard, Co-Author, The One-Minute Manager and The Secret

To be honest, I hate meetings and tend to keep them to a minimum. But if I need to chair or attend them, I always consult Donald Kirkpatrick. Now he has put his practical, interesting, and enjoyable ideas down in this wonderful book. You should buy this book for managers and trainers to make their meetings more productive. --Diederick Stoel, CEO, Profitwise

This book is right on the mark! Learning to plan and conduct productive meetings should be a part of every management development program. Because so much of our time is spent in meetings, it makes sense that possessing productive meeting management skills can have a real impact on an organization's bottom line. --Frank J. Anderson, Jr. President, Defense Acquisitions University

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic on Meeting Management, December 5, 2006
This review is from: How to Conduct Productive Meetings: Strategies, Tips and Tools to Ensure Your Next Meeting Is Well Planned and Effective (Paperback)
There are many books out there on meeting management but that by Donald Kirkpatrick has distinguished itself as a classic in meeting design, facilitation and ,management. The author methodically explains the essential elements of running productive meetings in a clear and logical way. The book is easy to read and use and is a standard guidebook that anyone can use.

The book covers all the meeting essentials including planning, creating an agenda, moderating conflict, stimulating discussion and participation, keeping a meeting focused, summarizing action items, problem solving, decision making, writing good minutes and following up on the meeting.

This is a very useful book whether you are the meeting leader, facilitator or participate in a meeting. It contains useful and often novel tips and techniques to ensure that a meeting is productive.

All-in-all, a clear, powerful and well written book that should avoid your organization from treating meetings as a nuisance and instead save vast amounts of time and productive man-hours from being wasted.

3.0 out of 5 stars Make sure your meetings are more interesting than this book., December 28, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: How to Conduct Productive Meetings: Strategies, Tips and Tools to Ensure Your Next Meeting Is Well Planned and Effective (Paperback)
I suppose if you have never facilitated a meeting, there is a great deal to learn from HOW TO CONDUCT PRODUCTIVE MEETINGS by Donald Kirkpatrick. However, if you have experience at holding meetings, you probably already know about 90%, or more, of what you will find here.

I found this book to be very basic. Perhaps my dissappointment comes from the lack of specific ideas on making meetings more productive. What you have here is little more than an outline to follow on basics of preperation for and control of the meeting. Again, it is mostly things an experienced meeting facilitator should already know. I found the writing itself to be quite text-bookish with little to hold my attention.

On the other hand, if you have little or no experience at conducting a meeting and find yourself thrust into that position, you might find this book useful.
