5.0 out of 5 stars Connection in Business is Everything, December 1, 2002

This review is from: How to Connect in Business in 90 Seconds or Less (Hardcover)
What a wonderful little book that packs a great big wallop! If you are serious about connecting with people in business, and reaping the rewards that come with more and better relationships, then this is an absolute must-read for you.

I had the good fortune of reading Nick Boothman's first book, "How to Make People Like You in 90 Seconds or Less," while on a flight to a conference in which I was teaching. I was inspired by the simplicity and practicality of Boothman's approach. I began using his techniques before even leaving the airplane and continued to use them in the cab, the hotel, and at the conference. It was a breakthrough moment for me. My audience paid closer attention, laughed more, and learned more than any other I had previously served. This happened because I connected with them in a much stronger and more meaningful way-Boothman's way. I've been following Nick's direction ever since.

Now, Mr. Boothman releases a pitch-perfect sequel-"How to Connect in Business in 90 Seconds or Less." While this volume is grounded in the same principles as his first book, every page is crafted with the businessperson in mind. As I have read and re-read this snappy, entertaining, profound book, I am amazed at how much more Nick Boothman has to teach me about persuasion-the craft of getting people (in this case clients and other business contacts) to want to do what I want them to do. It's all KFC: Know what you want, Find out what you're getting, and, Change what you do until you get what you want. Sounds obvious, right? Wrong. If it were many more of us would be much more successful.

Some of the material in this book is good basic sense that your mother told you but somehow leaked out of your head. Boothman puts that good sense back into your brain with a greater freshness, clarity, and practicality.

"How to Connect in Business in 90 Seconds or Less" illustrates the power of connecting with businesspeople quickly and consistently. Don't let your ego get in the way of picking up this book. You'll learn a lot stuff you thought you already knew.

5.0 out of 5 stars How connecting in business can work, November 6, 2002

I have been involved in marketing and networking for the last 30 years both in Europe and North America and thought I had learnt almost all I could about connecting in business. I was so wrong. On a recent transatlantic trip I read Boothman's book twice and put many of the suggestions to work at a function I attended at the end of the trip and was blown away by the positive reaction generated by using the techniques suggested.

Interesting and fascinating - very easy to follow - good examples and exercises. One of the best books on rapport building and the use of NLP. Lots of useful other goodies. Bravo!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good book, Amazing audio narrator, December 13, 2008

I listened to both "how to make people like you" and "how to succeed in business" - the books are good, but in the audio format the author is really amazing. he reads himself, and sounds like a very animated conversationalist rather than a reader or author. he's a delight just to listen to.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad for a quick read, December 19, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: How to Connect in Business in 90 Seconds or Less (Hardcover)
I picked up this book because I wanted to improve my ability to network and make business contacts. The majority of the book is common sense advice and is fairly helpful. You're not going to read anything particularly novel nor innovative by any means (contrary to what some of these reviews might lead you to believe). It's a quick read and has some good reminders, but it's mostly just good advice slightly adapted to the business world. I'd recommend the book, but don't expect to hear anything you haven't heard before.

5.0 out of 5 stars If You Only Buy One Book this Year, Buy this One!, January 24, 2009

This review is from: How to Connect in Business in 90 Seconds or Less (Hardcover)
I read lots of theoretical books, and have written a few. But I must confess that when it comes to practical application, Nicholas Boothman is champ. Very shortly after I began to read this book my wife noticed a change in me. I was actually connecting with people. Ordinary people who had no apparent business importance to me. All I did was put aside the theories and focus on people. Put aside the ego and quit trying to be interesting, but rather to be interested. All the stuff I learned about values, and Abraham Maslow, and behavioral science suddenly came to life in the real world. Boothman engages you from the first page and keeps you engrossed until the last. He begins with a visit with his legendary mentor, Francis Muldoon, who rolls out his philosophy of life in the back of a taxicab ("Capture the imagination and you capture the heart," etc.) and ends his book with a short (and valuable) course in public speaking. Wonderful, inspiring, useful stuff! I also suggest you acquire a copy of "The Four Minute Sell," by Janet G. Elsea, which is available as used copies for a very reasonable cost on Amazon. Together, these two books are an insurance policy against fear and tentativeness in all your relationships.

4.0 out of 5 stars good book, October 29, 2010
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book deals mostly with NLP applications (of course, one can expect that)
but it also talks about our Social, private, etc. space. This is something I resonate with.
It has good exercises but if you're an avid reader, you'd probably read all that this
book mentions, before.
