Wow! The things that you can do with DNA!,
By A Customer
This review is from: How to DNA Test Our Family Relationships (Paperback)
I thought that this book was very interesting. It is really unbelievable what DNA can say about a person's ancestral history. DNA can fill in the rest of a family's history where the photo album and genealogical research abruptly stops. And this book takes an easy approach to explaining the details without getting to technical.Good story telling, too.

This is where to start!,
By "bradleyline" (Bridgeport, CT) - See all my reviews
This review is from: How to DNA Test Our Family Relationships (Paperback)
Not having any prior knowledge or experience in science, this book helped explain what all the DNA phenomenon is about. The examples and information excited me about doing my own search and testing that it is now my hobby! It's the hottest topic amongst my friends and neighbors who are also getting the book and ready to dig into their "presumed" family history. I guess I'm most satisfied in that it helped me realize how powerful DNA is and as they say, knowledge is power!

Good book for genealogists,

This review is from: How to DNA Test Our Family Relationships (Paperback)
The book contains much valuable information for those who have concerns or problems related to the use of DNA technology in genealogical and forensic applications. It is well presented and to the point. The book certainly provides a useful background for someone who would like to know more about genomics. It does include some good discussions of the practical applications with balanced consideration of the controversies, although it may be too technical for many genealogists (and for many others right on the money). The paternity discussions are excellent.Edwin M. Knights, MD, Director of GeneSaver® [...]

Basics of DNA testing,
By A Customer
This review is from: How to DNA Test Our Family Relationships (Paperback)
The book covers useful basic approaches in paternity and genealogy testing, which are sometimes not explained even in biology textbooks. This book covers fundamental prinicpals of DNA work in this field. Highly recommed for purchase by those who want to learn the nuts and bold of all procedure involved in such tests. If you are a genealogist, lawyer, or just curious - this book will give you a very nice short but detailed overview of the techniques used in such type of work. The book is spiced with stories and examples.

This review is from: How to DNA Test Our Family Relationships (Paperback)
I highly recommend purchasing any DNA and genealogy books written in 2003 and later as we come into 2004. This book is already outdated as it was published in 2000 and science has advanced with new cutting edge technology in DNA and genealogy testing and new interpretations.

A useful guide for geneaology studies!,
By A Customer
This review is from: How to DNA Test Our Family Relationships (Paperback)
In this book the authors of the various chapters discuss laboratory techniques for DNA testing of biological relationships. These techniques are used in Y-chromosome and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) tests. The letter are used in large geneaology studies. Carmichael's book contains useful DNA testing resources (facilities) information for families interested to conduct such tests. Highly recommended for geneaology society members!
