Badly Drawn Boy - Too Many Miracles

Biography

"He's the Chorlton-cum-Springsteen anti-superstar" - Paul Morley

Has it really been a decade?
It feels a lot longer.
It feels like yesterday.
It was June 2000 when the Mercury-winning, seminal The Hour of the Bewilderbeast, announced the arrival of the badly drawn genius of Damon Gough. It's been a curious, wonderful, inimitable, unpredictable decade of major prizes and minor incidents, all… Read more in Amazon's Badly Drawn Boy Store

4.0 out of 5 stars What you really want to know, March 27, 2001
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: How Did I Get Here? (Audio CD)
So you really loved The Hour Of Bewilderbeast and you want more, and you are trying to figure out if this is the right thing because imports always cost more, right...

It is not identical to The Hour Of Bewilderbeast, but it is similar and near in quality. This album was written prior to Bewilderbeast, so that should also be noted and considered. There is less music on it, and it has less lyrical prominences. The instrumental sections are still excellent, and the lyrical songs are still catchy, and their unique sound is still there. It does seem that they had further mastered their sound by the time they created their latest album though.

So it wins four stars from me. If you LOVE Badly Drawn Boy's album it is a worthy purchase, but if you only liked it, then you might want to wait for the next album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Finally something new.., March 30, 2000
This review is from: How Did I Get Here? (Audio CD)
Buy this Cd if you are tired of bad music. Yes, it is expensive as an import but man, it is so good. You can rationalize it by thinking, "At least I won't buy these two or three cds which will probably only have a couple of good tracks on them and become $15 singles." If you crave something new, fresh and untainted by heavy studio sterilization, pick this up. No matter who your favorite band is there are at least five tracks you will dig. As a side note, the only reason that I didn't give it 5 stars because I need to save room for a full album if that ever happens.

5.0 out of 5 stars Badly Drawn Boy as Lo-Fi Brilliance, February 5, 2000
This review is from: How Did I Get Here? (Audio CD)
How did he get there, indeed. Damon Gough, aka BDB, collects the best tracks from three of his EPs for a Japanese compilation. My Friend Cubilas is a quiet lullaby-like tune, while my favorite It Came from the Ground is played both in its kicking full version and its Andy Votel remix. A respite for the waiting while Damon finishes up his as-yet-untitled debut album. Other great tracks include I Need a Sign, the funky Road Movie, and the lo-fi Outside is a Light. Comes with lyric sheet!
