What you really want to know,

So you really loved The Hour Of Bewilderbeast and you want more, and you are trying to figure out if this is the right thing because imports always cost more, right...It is not identical to The Hour Of Bewilderbeast, but it is similar and near in quality. This album was written prior to Bewilderbeast, so that should also be noted and considered. There is less music on it, and it has less lyrical prominences. The instrumental sections are still excellent, and the lyrical songs are still catchy, and their unique sound is still there. It does seem that they had further mastered their sound by the time they created their latest album though. So it wins four stars from me. If you LOVE Badly Drawn Boy's album it is a worthy purchase, but if you only liked it, then you might want to wait for the next album.

Finally something new..,

Buy this Cd if you are tired of bad music. Yes, it is expensive as an import but man, it is so good. You can rationalize it by thinking, "At least I won't buy these two or three cds which will probably only have a couple of good tracks on them and become $15 singles." If you crave something new, fresh and untainted by heavy studio sterilization, pick this up. No matter who your favorite band is there are at least five tracks you will dig. As a side note, the only reason that I didn't give it 5 stars because I need to save room for a full album if that ever happens.

Badly Drawn Boy as Lo-Fi Brilliance,

How did he get there, indeed. Damon Gough, aka BDB, collects the best tracks from three of his EPs for a Japanese compilation. My Friend Cubilas is a quiet lullaby-like tune, while my favorite It Came from the Ground is played both in its kicking full version and its Andy Votel remix. A respite for the waiting while Damon finishes up his as-yet-untitled debut album. Other great tracks include I Need a Sign, the funky Road Movie, and the lo-fi Outside is a Light. Comes with lyric sheet!

It Came from the UK and it sounded so good...,

This is a great primer for the seminal BDB. It comprises various tracks from Damon Gough's later EPs (EP3 to Once Around the Block). It Came from the Ground, his strongest track, is here in two versions (original and Andy Votel Mix). At present he's still working on a proper album, but this one should tide people over.

nothing like bewilderbeest,

how did this album get such great reviews? sounds like he composed it on a casio -- repetitious, rinky dink electronic music, without the nice chamber pop instrumentation of bewilderbeest. for this much swag you can go buy 2 or three decent albums.
