Finally--a neat nitty gritty book on Netobjects Fusion!,
By Ruth J. Mcclure "webmaster - technical writer" (San Jacinto, CA United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: How to Do Everything NetObjects Fusion 11 (Paperback)
How to Do Everything: NetObjects Fusion 11 I can't tell you how long I've waited for a good user's guide to Netobjects Fusion, my favorite HTML editor. Each year the software has gotten more powerful; each year the written documentation has grown more sparse. With the introduction of Netobjects Fusion 11, I was at the end of my patience with fighting the glitches between Windows Vista and Netobjects Fusion 10. I had reviewed the users' groups, the software's online documentation, and performed several searches for reviews and comments about the new version. I actually decided to upgrade only because David Plotkin's book was available, which was a wise choice. It's a pleasure to read, easily understandable to a novice user or an experienced website developer. For me, it was written at just the right level as there were some of the newer, more sophisticated functions within Fusion that I wanted to work with but didn't want to plow through the documentation offered, such as data base publishing, using Flash, Java, and ActiveX. Even simple things in Netobjects now have so many options that it is invaluable to have a guide with good graphical images accompanying the text so you get a complete picture without having to work with your software and the book at the same time. Especially valuable are the handy tips and tricks that appear throughout the text as "Notes" that cover little shortcuts, alternate choices, and warnings. There is also a companion website, which is a big asset. If you have waited for a good basic user's guide to Netobjects Fusion, this is a good place to start. It will not only explain the latest Netobjects Fusion 11, but if you have been somewhat lax in keeping up with the new bells and whistles of the software as it's developed, this book will bring you up to date.

Bravo. This is a perfect book for those who own Net Objects. It's loaded with detailed instructions and allows you to use the FULL power of Net Objects. I wish every book was this useful.

Net Objects Fushion 11 Big Help,

Net Objects Fusion is great software and the built in documentation is very good.
But this is the book you need if you want simple, clear explanations of how to build web sites. Because Net Objects is so powerful and has so many options, the built in documentation covers everything. And the presentation is in condensed form, without explanations. This book is the right starting point because the presentation format and organization are so easy to follow. I recommend it for any novice to mid level user.

I have been using NOF since version 5. This book is easy to follow and is very enlightening on the in's and out's of the program. If you are an newbie to web design or an experienced user, this book is a great tool to have at your disposal.

Still fussin' with Net Fusion -- and am mostly quite annoyed that it won't let you access individual html's -- for instance working on "just one" from, say, a site you've designed in the past and want to add some bells and whistles too (instead, it wants to exclusively have the reigns of an entire site). So my beef is with the software whereas the book itself is very thorough, clear, easy to use, and logically indexed, etc. Kinda crazy to me that an additional book is required by an outsider to decode a software program and, frankly, as a longtime PC user this is the first time I've had to source an outside manual and am mostly used to Adobe products for graphics, desktop publishing, etc. And I've been designing websites since the mid-90's.
This is a meandering blurp, I realize. Bottom line: if you are as flummoxed by this frustrating software as I was when first trying to test-drive it, by all means DO get this book!

I read a few reviews before purchasing this book and I was thinking it was going to be too basic for me because I've been using NOF since the mid-90s, but it is not too basic. I love having it at hand as I try to maneuver my way through some new ideas I'm using for web design with NOF. The author even invites you to ask him questions and responds! I found some great informative web sites that I did not know about listed in the book, and the web sites too have been very helpful in teaching me things about NOF I did not know and have not used. Overall, I really love this book and have no hesitation in recommending it. The friendliness and helpfulness of the author is a definite plus!

This book should come with the software. David Plotkin had excelled in the assembly and publication of this helpful book. I use it often and keep it close at hand for a reference. The author is also quite amazing as he personally assisted me with a NOF11 problem after I left a question on his NOF11 website. I doubt there are many authors out there who would care to assist their readers and get them on the right track. Great book and I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone using NOF11.

NetObjects Fusion is the easiest web design and publishing software I have ever used. I do not like that their tech support is email only, no calls, but since this software, and this "How to Do Everything" manual are so easy to use, I have needed tech support only 3 times in about 4 years. The sites I have created and maintian with NetObjects Fusion 11 are [...]

I had high hopes for this book, since NetObjects Fusion does not come with a printed manual and isn't as user friendly as it could be. As it turned out, I had already figured out most of what's in the book. Still, since the company will not supply a printed manual, having a book with all the commands and features explained is the next best thing.
It will serve as a useful reference for future web site construction.

Excellent! A "Must Have" for Fusion Users,

This review is from: How to Do Everything NetObjects Fusion 11 (Paperback)
This book fills a void for users of Netobjects Fusion---the middle ground between the 202-page Fusion PDF Getting Started Guide (a tutorial), and the 1,160-page Fusion PDF User Guide (if you print this double-sided, it will take three 2" plastic comb binders). This book is extremely well written, comprehensive, and an easy read. I also like David's personal observations along the way, such as "...Fusion is not a well-known product, though this is a shame...." NetObjects Fusion is an excellent web-authoring program, and this book is an excellent companion!
