Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

The Apple iBook is setting trends in notebook computer design, but it's more importantly a glorious little machine well-suited to the needs of individuals who like to keep up with their work while they travel. How to Do Everything with Your iBook tells how to put your sleek traveling companion (and its operating system, Mac OS 9) to use, with an emphasis on elementary Macintosh conventions and procedures for people who aren't familiar with them. In explaining how to milk maximum performance from your computer and its accessories, the authors lean heavily on stepped procedures complemented by screen shots where appropriate. Rather than reading this book straight through, you'll probably find yourself looking up the passages you want in the table of contents or the index.

The AirPort wireless networking system is closely related to the iBook in marketing and popular thought, and the authors give it its due. They explain how to install AirPort cards in iBooks, tell how to set up AirPort base stations, and show how to network a pair of AirPort-card-equipped iBooks without an AirPort base station. Overall, this is a decent book for novices, but you might want to supplement it with The Little Mac Book for general coverage. --David Wall

Topics covered: The basics of the iBook portable computer and Mac OS 9. Readers learn how to use the Finder, manipulate Mac OS windows and menus, and use AppleWorks and the other software that ships with the iBook. Multimedia and networking receive special attention.
