5.0 out of 5 stars This is the best Visor book!
This is all the information that should be included when you buy your visor! Most companies now package help files on computers and do not include written documentation. I suppose it is cheaper. But shame on them! This is what should be included with the purchase... I had my visor for a few months and this booked helped me with things I didn't know. Excellent...

2.0 out of 5 stars Some good, more bad
I recently bought this book to discover what secrets lie in my Visor Platinum. There are some good hints and it is a nice supplement to the user guide. The first few pages of every chapter were useful, then things went downhill. The thing I didn't like about this book is the number of pages devoted to all the software you can buy and download to make your Visor really...

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the best Visor book!, November 6, 2000
This review is from: How to Do Everything with Your Visor (Paperback)
This is all the information that should be included when you buy your visor! Most companies now package help files on computers and do not include written documentation. I suppose it is cheaper. But shame on them! This is what should be included with the purchase... I had my visor for a few months and this booked helped me with things I didn't know. Excellent information written in a pleasing, even humorous, manner equals a very thourough readable book. I would go so far to say that this is indispensable. I have the book... the dummies guide to the visor and while that was helpful this is much more so. The book for visors "i didnt know you could do that.." is not helpful at all. It is mostly a list of shareware links that are easy to find on the internet or in the two books i meantioned above. Save yourself some wondering and scratching your head...if you have the visor....buy this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars This book helps a lot!, October 27, 2000

In a bookstore, I read the other book about learning the Handspring Visor, but I liked this one better. It's laid out better and is easier to understand. I love my Visor, but I felt that I did not know enough about it to get the most out of it. Looking around on the CD that was packed with the Visor was really not any help. I wanted to get into the 'guts' of this little computer, and with this book I have.

Only an hour after I bought this book, I had put in my personal info. and set up my Visor in a way that, if lost, someone turning it on would see only one screen--with my personal info, (name, phone number, etc) so that I could get the Visor back in my hands. If I hadn't bought this book, I wouldn't know this. I also learned that the times of the cities in 'City Time' were all wrong for the area of the the country I live in. I decided to set my local city to NYC and the time zones automatically reset. I learned how to set up new categories in most of the files making the Visor work for me, instead of my having to put things in pre-defined files. These few things are just the beginning of what can be done with the Visor. The book also lists some cool Palm apps I'm planning to try. I wish though, that the software had been rated by the authors so I could quickly decide which apps to try and which ones to skip. For this omission, I give the book 4 stars.

In all, a very well-written book which I consider an investment in my Visor. If you are even a little confused about using your Visor, buy this book and make your Visor work more efficiently for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Should replace the manual..., December 11, 2000

Especially since there is no real manual with the Visor, only the PDF document, this should replace it. The authors are both witty and informative. And the information is exactly what is needed for the new owner of a Handspring Visor. My only wish would be that this book be included in the box when you buy a new Visor.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good intro to the Visor PDA, October 21, 2000

A good introduction to the Visor PDA. Covers all the basics of the unit, getting started, built-in applications, third party apps, and the Springboard module slot. Includes use of desktop computer synchronization software for PC and Mac. Clearly written and with humorous sidebars, this is a quick way to learn all about your Visor. Points out the benefits of this machine over the Palm products. I would like to have more third party apps reviewed, perhaps with a star rating, so I could better sift through the thousands of apps available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Should have come in the box!, July 30, 2001

I inherited a Visor Deluxe (green, very cool). Because there aren't many other Visor books out there, I bought this one. I don't understand what the other reviewers are talking about, this is an excellent book. I now know things about the built in programs that I didn't know before, and I've learned about the amazing number of third-party programs and products that I didn't even know existed. Seriously, ignore the people who give this one or two stars - they are crazy. If you have a Visor, you should get this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Jump Start for the New Visor User, September 1, 2001
By

This review is from: How to Do Everything with Your Visor (Paperback)
Color me old-fashioned, but I like to read about a new tool as I'm learning to use it. With a product as useful as the Visor, I'd REALLY like to master it. And I'm impatient. So having a handy guide nearby was a real blessing. I actually didn't find the PDF user guide on the Visor's CD until months after I'd been using the device. The Visor is a wonderful product, but the packaging assumes some intuitive leaps (like including the manual on the CD, without any prompts to open or print it). This book was a godsend. Enough humor to get you through the detail, and good insights to save some aggravation. Worth the money. Definitely.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book should come with all Handspring Visors!, June 4, 2001
By
This review is from: How to Do Everything with Your Visor (Paperback)
This book is filled with all the information you need on doing tricks with your Handspring. I wish I purchased this book at the same time as my Handspring Visor. But although I used my Visor for a full month before reading the book, there was a lot of information that I learned.

At the price of this book, I would highly recommend everyone to purchase this book at the same time that they buy their Visor. The online manual that comes with the Handspring Visor sucks compared to this book.

The only downfall to this book was the outdated material concerning the available Springboard modules. But that's how technology will be, always outpacing the books that are written. But I find that information not pertinent to affect my rating of this item.

Please do yourself a favor, buy this book!

I found this book by chance and recommend it highly to any Visor owner. It is easy to read and has excellent references. Everyone with a Visor should get this book.

The first few pages of every chapter were useful, then things went downhill. The thing I didn't like about this book is the number of pages devoted to all the software you can buy and download to make your Visor really work effectively. It seemed the book was almost completely devoted to third-party software that you needed to buy. I would have been much happier if it dealt with what was on my Visor rather than trying to convince me I needed to sink another [price] into third-party software. This is a great book if you are looking for a resource into third-party software, but a poor book if you just want to use your Visor without spending the money on more software.
