5.0 out of 5 stars My son understands that mommy will always love him.
My son, who is 4 yr old loves this book. He is realizing that it is wrong to have bad behaviors, but I will always love him. This book gives him the courage to admit and talk about what he has done wrong, knowing that I still love him, even though I may be mad. This is truly an amazing book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Used does mean USED!
I love the story and the graphics; however, the condition of this book was not what I expected. A few pages were stuck together and when separated, the text on the page was damaged. Also, the first page of the book had writing on it in permanent marker :( Probably would have paid about 25 cents for it at a garage sale!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Parent's Love, August 16, 2005

This book truly captures a parent's love for their child. This author has a gift for writing the most poignant things in books for children. The books are more for me than for my son! They give me a way to tell him how I feel about him...and keep his interest with pictures. This is a great book for any parent to read to their child...young and old.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Loving Story, June 13, 2001

This story is a wonderful way to answer your child's question "Why do you love me?" I love to snuggle with my children and read this story to them. My children love to look at the vivid illustrations and laugh at the antics of the little boy. I love this story as much as I love "I'll Love You Forever" (not by Hallinan), but I can actually read this story outloud without crying.

5.0 out of 5 stars A love story between parent and child, October 21, 1996
By A Customer
This review is from: How Do I Love You (Paperback)
This book was written by Mr. Hallinan as a gift to his sons. It is the most gentle and touching love story between a parent and child. Any family's library will be enriched by this beautiful book. Have a big box of tissues at the ready. It cannot be read without tears

5.0 out of 5 stars Such a Sweet, and Totally True, Book!, February 6, 2005
This review is from: How Do I Love You? (Board book)
My husband and I have given this book to our two-year-old son. It simply explains when, how, where, and how a parent loves their child. The illustrations are precious and they show realistic situations. We read this book to our son as frequently as we can. He loves it and I can hardly get through it without tearing up. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars If you have a child, you need this book!, January 4, 2003

... The illustrations are so sweet -- you can't help but smile at this kid on every page! The story helps children know that their parents love them unconditionally ("...even though it may not show, I love you when you're bad."), and it helps reduce parents' frustrations by reminding us to slow down and enjoy life and each other ("I love the way you take each day in your own unhurried style.") This is a great book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, May 5, 2006

This is my daughter's favorite book. I love it and I never get tired of reading it to her. It's well writted, sweet, great pictures, perfect rhymes and cadence-- the perfect kids book.

I think this is a must-read for all kids. I bought this after buying "Guess How Much I Love You," which is, in my opinion, one of the worst children's books out there. This book gives parents a way to tell their children how much they are loved WITHOUT comparing the degree of their love to their child's.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book to every parent out there. You'll read it so much that you'll memorize it, but you won't care-- you'll still love reading it every night-- multiple times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most popular request, March 11, 2004

This review is from: How Do I Love You? (Board book)
My husband picked this up off of a discount table at a local bookstore. I have since sent 6 copies to friends that are expecting. It is my daughter's most requested book! Almost every night we read it. When we read it together (with my husband) we take turns on each page-now both of us can recite the book from memory. We also like to use it to talk about how the little boy is feeling in each picture. GREAT BOOK!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, loving story book, December 6, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: How Do I Love You? (Board book)
My 17 month old daughter had us read this to her all the time. It was after reading this book to her for about the 10th time, she started staying "I love you". Now, we tell her to go get the I Love You book and she pulls it right out of her box of books. She knows exactly which one it is. And of course, the book couldn't say it better on how all of us feel about her. She is now 19 months old and still goes to this book all the time. She will start looking for it saying "I love you" and then brings it to us to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Will Always Love You..., May 25, 2010

This review is from: How Do I Love You? (Board book)
Every child deserves to hear how much a parent loves him or her. While many parents have no trouble expressing their love, others feel awkward doing so. P.K. Hallinan has written "How Do I Love You?" for those parents and for anyone who loves a child.

Unlike other Hallinan books, this one does not slant toward faith or Christianity. It is simply an expression of love and of the simple things one loves about a special child. The scenes depicted include those of everyday happenings - laughing, dancing in the rain, and playing. More importantly, the poem reminds a child they are loved on their very best and very worst of days, when they are sad and when they are bad, and that it is impossible to express how much that child is loved.

The illustrations highlight a blond boy, so I am not sure that parents of girls would find this book as useful as parents of boys will. In fact, I am surprised that Candy Cane Press did not publish two editions - one for girls and one for boys. Nevertheless, I recommend this book as another treasure for your little one's library.
