Good gift for your teenaged daughter/neice/sister . . .,
This review is from: How Do I Look?: The Complete Guide to Inner and Outer Beauty: From Confidence to Cosemetics (Hardcover)
I received this book last Xmas and it has definitely improved the way I feel about myself and how others perceive me. It is very down to earth and thus especially good for teenage girls who often are confused about what to wear. It definitely helps take all the fear girls often have about diving into clothes and makeup. This book will also help the girl who has gone overboard polish her look without loosing her sense of style. But by far the most important chapter is the last one which talks about feeling good about yourself. This book is PERFECT for correcting some of the stereotypes portrayed by magazines that emphasize money, perfection, and fads. Easy to read, interesting and good illustrations. A great pick!

Loaded with helpful hints on classic style & beauty,

This review is from: How Do I Look?: The Complete Guide to Inner and Outer Beauty: From Confidence to Cosemetics (Hardcover)
Speaking as a former model who already knows lots of tricks and hints, I have to say I found this book comprehensive in its scope (covering everything from makeup to skin care to clothing purchases to care of clothing and diet). It was just packed full of wonderfully useful information for the woman who wants to look classy, polished, and would like a good one-in-all guide on how to achieve that look. This is a guide for the woman who wants to achieve the Jacqueline Kennedy look, the Audrey Hepburn look, in other words, the "I'm rich-I-take care of myself-my- hems-fall-just-right-and-yes- this-is-real-cashmere-look." This is not a book about trends--so if you're looking for that you'd need to buy another book. Hayman's discussion on purchasing classic clothing is particularly helpful--she even gives you a list of what you'd need to have the best wardrobe at the best price (telling you what essentials you need to purchase, what you could live without). In fact, after buying this book for my mother, my grandmother, and my aunt (they thank me constantly and recommend the book to their friends as well) they purchased the clothes. Now, for the first time (they'll kill me if they see this!) they look put together, polished--absolutely wonderful. And no, they don't look like clones, either! Highly recommended for the reader who doesn't want to spend a lot of time with various books--this one has it all

Classic Beauty,
This review is from: How Do I Look?: The Complete Guide to Inner and Outer Beauty: From Confidence to Cosemetics (Hardcover)
In her book, Gale Hayman shows us how to look great. She begins by telling us about style and fabric. There are certain articles of clothing that should meet basic standards before purchasing. She gives us that criteria. From her book, I have learned: 1. How to care for my skin and not spend a fortune. 2. How to dress like a million and not overspend. When I wear a garment that was recommended from Gale's book-- heads turn. My hair isn't different, my personality hasn't changed. Most of us look good in stylish classics, the proof is in the head turning. Try it yourself and see how many glance your way.

A practical, down-to-earth, comprehensive guide to beauty.,

No hype, no insults -- this is just a great practical guide to every-day beauty. Gayle writes simply and beautifully about simple beauty practices that can enhance our every day lives and preserve our natural beauty for many more years. This is a guide to classic beauty, not how to follow the latest fads and spend a lot of money. For any expensive beauty tip, the author also suggests a less expensive alternative. This book should be on every woman's must-read list. Too many women these days forget that looking classy, well-dressed, and taken-care of brings out all the best in our femininity and makes us feel better about ourselves.

I purhcased this book shortly after it was published, and still find myself going back to it constantly to seek out ideas and tips. There hasn't been another book as comprehensive as this one. This is for women in all walks of life, in all stages of "development".

I bought this book back when it was first published. One of the tips Gale gives is to wear your clothes a size too big. Her theory is that you'll look smaller. If you watch even one episode of What Not To Wear, it's clear that in order to dress your best, your clothes must fit you, even if a tailor has to be involved. A big no-no is baggy clothes that Gale promotes in this book.

Although I have to admit there were a few useful tips, the books really not worth the $20 you have to pay for it
