Terrific Tender True Toby,
By TamiR (Missouri, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: How Do You Like Me Now (Audio CD)
How much is this fella gettin payed to slam one of country musics greatest singers since Merle Haggard, which, may I remind you, was Toby's roll model? I have listened to this CD and find it truely Toby. The notes and ranges that can only come from his voice. He brings back true COUNTRY music not cross over, pop, or alternative...But COUNTRY music... You don't hear much of that. May I also mention his songwriting abilities. How many #1's has he had? And been awarded for his song writing abilities. I think you need to hire a new reviewer, feel free to email me...This is TK's strongest CD yet...his style nor voice never changes like some peoples...need I mention names? ...The title track is Pure Toby Keith, and the contents of the CD reflect his cowboy ways and tender side and even his fatherhood. Relisten and give us a better view on this terrifec CD.. Listen to You shouldn't kiss me like this.....The Wall....Love You kiss you hold you....Die with your boots on.... Give it a week of non stop ,listening and we'll be waiting for a new review! So Toby In answer to your question How Do you Like Me Now? WE LOVE YOU! Please don't change!

another review,

The way I decide if a cd is good or not is based on the songs. I can usually find at least one good song on any cd. And I can usually find at least one bad song on any cd. If I like half of the songs or more, it's a keeper. Out of the 12 songs on here, I really love 7 of them. But what's amazing is that this is one of those rare cds where I can't find ANY songs that I don't like. There isnt a track on here that makes me reach for the "next song" button. I can listen to them all. And more than half of the songs make me want to reach for the "repeat song" button. I'd like to also mention that I usually prefer faster songs than slower ones, but this cd is the exception. I prefer the slower songs on this one because they are written and sung so well. All in all, this is the type of cd that I would tell someone, "dont worry if you cant listen to it before you buy it, you'll like it." On another note, I really like Toby's "Blue Moon" cd too, you might wanna check that one out. There are 4 or 5 songs on there that arent on greatest hits, but I like them alot.

I'm a convert,

After 25+ years of listening to R&B (yes, I'm a black woman) and hating rap (it all sounds alike to me), I switched my TV one day and saw a Toby Keith video. I could actually understand everything the man was trying to say and could empathize with the lyrics. It was then I questioned my loyalty to a kind of music that I'd heard all my life and was determined, 'I'm not going country', but that was 6mos ago and I am proud to say I am a huge fan of Toby Keith. (Toby, please come to Raleigh, NC - SOON).I'd pay to see you in concert. I am working my way thru your album history and I must say I am deeply impressed. I don't believe the Greatest Hits covers it. 'Yet' should have been on there as well as many others. I am giving your newest CD 5 stars, if I could give 10 I would. Forget the critics, keep on doing your thing YOUR WAY. If they could come up with music as heartfelt and as touching as yours - THEY'D DO IT. Looking forward to more music, more videos, just more..... a big fan

Fun and Clever,

I really am not a huge country music fan, but I really like and admire Toby Keith (and, of course, Johnny Cash). I prefer the uptempo Toby, and I have to say that "Country Comes To Town," is a truthful, fun morsel of gold. The band is very tight, the vocals strong and the audio quality is excellent. There is no doubt where the title came from. Obviously dealing with a broken heart (a longtime staple of country music) is something that most of us go through eventually. Toby is sly in "How Do You Like Me Now," making it clear who actually got the best end of the deal without being overtly nasty or arrogant, but with clarity and humor, nonetheless. I am proud of and like Toby Keith for many reasons (not the least of which is standing up to a certain self-important TV news anchor, who will remain nameless), and this CD is certainly one of them. Thanks, Toby, for saying better than I ever could just how I feel in so many of your songs!

What a CD!,

Toby Keith is definitely one of the greatest talents in Nashville, and this CD shows this to the extreme! The title track absolutely rocks. "When Love Fade", "Blue Bedroom", "Hold You, Kiss You, Love You" and "Coutry Comes to Town" are examples of great music, too. "New Orleans" is possibly one of the best story songs I have ever heard. It seems so real and just grabs you. My favorite track is "You Shouldn't Kiss Me Like This" because it is a song that I can really relate to, it seems like it was something out of my life. "Heart to Heart" to his young son is a particularly touching song. The only complaint that I have about this CD is the song "Die With Your Boots On" it seems to kind of fall flat, but the rest of CD easily picks it up. My only regret is that I took so long to buy this. As long as Toby is recording, that will never happen again. This CD is a must!

I first heard "How do you like me now! " while I was channel surfing and I came across the video. And anytime after that when I heard that song, it couldn't be loud enough! Personally, it takes a lot for me to like a country singer...I prefer musicals and opera. But I bought this CD hoping that I'd like more than just the title track. I was amazed to find that every song on this CD is well worth listening to. Toby Keith is a very talented man and his voice is beautiful and incredible. There isn't one bad song on this CD. The songs on this album are all so different from each other that you can just put the CD in and let it play without getting the same old thing from every song. I don't think I could ever get sick of it. I hope everyone can enjoy it.

Country Western music is an old friend of mine. The lyrics speak to me and the music always takes me along for a great ride. I am happy that this type of music is no longer "fenced in" as it crosses into Pop, Rock and more. Not only is this a great album, but the songs speak to the world of growing up, falling in love, achieving dreams, and loss -- just like real life. Toby Keith's song "How Do You Like Me Now?" encompasses this transition as a man looks back at his high school days -- and the girl who never thought he'd make it in the music world. I always smile when he sings, "… how do you like me now, now that I'm on my way…." The kid who played his guitar too loud deserves to look back and smirk. Something we all would like to do at some time. My favorite song is "You Shouldn't Kiss Me Like This." Unfortunately, ..., but the lyrics will take you to the single moment when friends become lovers as romance blossoms. "Don't kiss me like this, unless you mean it like that, cause I'll just close my eyes and forget where I'm at…." Remembering the past brings hope for the future. It doesn't fall into the trap that makes an album boring because each song is special, with rhythm and styles that vary. The only thing that could make this music better is to have Toby Keith singing it just for me. What don't I like about this album? Absolutely nothing. 5 Stars....

Toby has a fabulous voice. It's deep, powerful, clear, and very attractive. How Do You Like Me now is a fantastic revenge song, very strong and funny at the same time. You Shouldn't Kiss Me is really hot. All the songs are great. Toby's the best.

WOW!,

How Do You Like Me Now? One of the best CD's I have ever listened to. Everyday I have a new favorite. Today it is I Know A Wall When I See One. Who hasn't ran into an ex somewhere? Of course I love the title track, I also love the story telling of New Orleans, I love the way voice changes in this song and sounds so completely different. Toby has shown not only his vocal talent on this CD but his songwriting talent as well. My only question is How can such a talent go unnoticed for so long? I find myself listening to this CD when I wake-up, when I work, when I clean up and when I go to bed at night. There is something for everyone on this beauty! And every song has a different sound and a different feel to it, So you never get bored. Thank You, Johnnie

Toby is underestimated!,

I was horrified after reading the editorial review by that person who works for amazon. How dare he criticize this album so harsly! It is awesome! Why don't you let the country fans be the true judgers of what is good and bad? Calling Country Comes to Town a "pointless ditty" is absolutely absurd. That song has been a huge hit for Toby and very popular with country as well as non-country fans. He has opened all his concerts this year with that song and it is a fun, enthusiastic, upbeat song that cowboys can truly relate to. How Do You Like Me Now, the title song, has converted many of my friends to country fans with its catchy beat and great message. You Shouldn't Kiss me Like this is probably the most beautiful song I've heard in a while and there are many other great hits on there just waiting to be released, such as New Orleans and When Love Fades. We true Toby fans love it! Keep the hits coming!
